Episode #1.8

Maybe, the dialogue between Guglielmo and Jorge, the library in flames and the last scene are the good points of episode. The sins - many. But , like in the early episodes, not so awful. Because you know than it is the final and , after eight episodes, you are nostalgic or indulgent. Because you read, again, the novel. My only problem about the serie is - it has not soul. A lot of flesh, from costumes, light, soundtrack. Good performances - a great Salvatore, an interesting Guglielmo de Baskerville. But you do not feel the story, you ignore each friar and each murder. And the details out of novel are, in many senses, too, too much. Sure, a decent serie. Not good, not bad. Only decent. Its virtue - maybe- to drive the viewer to the magnificent book.

The last episode contains no surprises as far as the plot is concerned. The discovery of the solution brings William and Also to a final confrontation with a character who should be beyond suspicion, while elsewhere in the abbey all sorts of activities are taking place.

Once more, one wonders what was the point of the Anna character, except for a wink to feminism and a clumsy attempt to fix the lack of active female characters in the plot. The nameless sex object, I mean the grunge model passing for an occitane exile, is disposed of relatively quickly and once more her role is passive, going from being a prisoner to an ex, thanks to somebody else's intervention.

Once the female roles are done, the men can wrap up their messy activities with a major disaster, such as at the burning of the library and, for good measure the destruction of the abbey, while Remigio manages to die on his own terms and Bernando Gui can remove himself from the scene relatively unscathed.

The best part of this episode is that Remigio gets very little screen time, but long conversations and close-up still abound.
