Should Have Known Better

Before I get to the review I have an idea that could perhaps, if not eliminate, greatly reduce all these fake reviews by people involved in the production of the movies they review with "10" 's.

1) All ratings from new accounts do not count towards the sum total until the account is at least 3 months old and the account has rated let's say 500 movies.

2) All reviews are not visible until the account is at least 3 months old and the account has written a minimum of 20 reviews.

These are simply examples of what could be done to remedy this wildly out of control trend on IMDb from members of production wasting our time with their fake reviews and further wasting our time by fooling us.

Why did I write that? Because even though I should have known better, the fake rating of this movie actually fooled me into thinking this was a decent movie. As I write this, there are 126 votes of "10" and 133 votes of "9". And if the 259 people who thought this movie was near perfect or perfect are not somehow involved with the production I will eat my hat.

This movie is simply awful.

Horrible acting from people who should seriously look into other career options as they will end up waiting tables for their rest of their lives and a washed up Tara Reid who at one point in her career actually had some promise but let alcohol and endless bad decisions lead her to these types of movies.

Do yourself a favor and avoid this, it's not even a "so bad it's good" type of movie, it's just dreck.

Actually its bad but not that bad

Ok so its a low budget horror so set your sights at the appropriate level and your review skills.

Its actually a fun horror with a lot of humour and a very weird setup. Some of the creatures are actually quite unusual like the snails and the pig creature as well as the setting and many of the scenes are just bizarre which adds to the overall fun of it all.

Yes its bad but actually it has some quite ingenious ideas and settings and I have to admit I found the art itself to be very interesting and unusual which gives it another star alone. The acting is ok and is in tune with the film which does not take itself too seriously; unfortunately some of the reviewers have taken this movie seriously as pure horror which it is not and its tongue in cheek style and over the top gore which is well done. Even the end credits show the writers have a sense of humour - I know once the film is over most people just get up and leave but I always stay with my bruvv to the very end and glad I did as the credits were as funny as the film with all 30 of the snails getting a credit as "speedy" and many others get wacky credits - see if you can spot em all - it almost gets an extra star for that but the overall fun of it all lets me give it a well deserved average 5/10.

Agreed on the Night Gallery synopsis from before, and serious questions regarding the ratings system.

Who knew Tara Reid and Richard Grieco had enough time to write their own reviews, using phony screen names?

This movie is a complete and utter disaster and a even more complete waste of time.

I think the other reviewers are insane

Nothing about this movie is good. It's an insult this has an 8.3 right now. The horrible acting really compliments just how boring this is. This is coming from someone who loves awful horror/ horror comedy.

6.7/10 with 316 votes? As if!

Might be good if you are high on bath salts! There are adult films that have better acting, which is surprising as there are actually several good actors, all of who were having a bad day? Maybe it was meant to be a film of study - what not to do when making a film. Maybe the actors were blackmailed and forced to do this?

Special effects, lighting, sound and filming was actual decent as far as bad movies go. Not even a B movie or remotely close to being a cult classic. Better luck next time!

Night Gallery Episode Knockoff

The writing is what spoils this film. The plot, character work and dialogue is extremely poor. The plot is too simple and is expected from the beginning. The characters are stagnant and have no growth. The dialogue is just poor. Writing is a 2.

The acting is better than average and deserves a 6.5. Once again they were not given a lot to work with.

The Director should have made dozens of script changes and failed to do so. I'd give him a 6.

The Cinematography was a 6.5. My advice stop using just one main viewpoint.

In the end it was ok.

Who to believe?

A lot of these reviews are suspicious, not just the positive ones. Two of the 1star reviewers have never rated anything else either. I wonder if this is all a friends vs enemies of the cast/crew. It's not a 1star movie or a 10star movie. I'd rate it a 6. It's entertaining and doesn't go where I expected it to go. Sure, some things could have been done better, but it's still a reasonable watch.

This film is the 8th sin.

Such a great concept; such a sinfully bad execution. A "Goosebumps" aesthetic with acting worse than a blind table read by 8th graders. Forget the paintings; it was this film that was the work of the devil.

Solid and highly enjoyable genre effort.

After being auctioned off together, a well-to-do family buys a collection of paintings with a supposedly cursed lineage throughout history and puts them up around the house, only to soon find themselves becoming affected by the paintings and must find out the curse's origins to stop it.

Overall, this one was quite an enjoyable and entertaining effort. One of the strongest aspects of the film is a wholly engaging and immersive supernatural aspect to the entire setup. Bringing together the idea of the various paintings containing a vibrant backstory of supernatural influence and forcing them to carry out graphic acts of carnage and mutilation is a solid start before adding on the religious connections. Utilizing the concept of the Seven Deadly Sins is a slightly cliched take on the material but manages to imbue a special touch later on when it comes to how they affect the family based on the particular painting they become associated with. With the proper personalities falling victim to the various sins, there's a valid connection within the film between these areas. On top of that setup, when the film puts those into the practice of exploring the supernatural influences the film has fun letting loose with some dramatic flair. A fantastic opening scene featuring a former owner imagining a brutal attack on his family before having the paintings attack him is a strong start, as are the fun scenes of the paintings impacting the lives of various personnel around the auction before they arrive at the house. The hallucinations and interactions that we see the family fall into come across well due to the influx of the religious connotations and allows for a wide array of wild and enjoyable sequences. While these are fine, the real fun comes in the final half where they've become fully invested by the paintings which result not only in far more outlandish special effects for their transformations but also featuring wilder actions that are enjoyable to watch as well as come from fine setup work. Overall, these are what work well with the film. There are a few minor issues here. The biggest problem is a rather goofy series of technical qualms that are strikingly at odds with the rest of the movie. The fact that the paintings are given a distinctive voiceover depicting their growing possession and influence they're bringing out on the family feels completely awkward and out-of-place in the film. Just as out-of-place is the series of hallucinations featuring his muse influencing the family, starting with telling him to look beyond what he knows and start to take inspiration elsewhere to the interactions with the sexually frustrated wife. He doesn't need to be a presence as much as he is in here when he takes on the role of narrative dump with all the exposition about the history of his pain and the curse of the paintings, a trope that's goofy, silly and was bound to happen anyway making this method of integration into the story feel rather clumsy. These are what hold the film down.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Violence, Graphic Language, Full Nudity and a strong scene of sexuality.

Its Watchable

Thoughts while watching this film.

  • Jessica Morris. I remember her from Bloody Murder. She got even more beautiful.

  • Nice to see Tara Reid is getting work.

  • Im watching a guy drink from a hose to death. Interesting.

  • Two little kids turn into snails. OK
  • The unpopular dorky girl looks pretty damn good to me. Could they not find a unattractive girl?

  • Its not great but worth the dollar I paid for the DVD.

Please Avoid at all Costs!

I rarely write reviews, normally only when a movie is especially amazing....or unfortunately with this one, especially disastrous. I honestly feel as though I cannot express in words how terrible this movie is, but I'll do my best. To start, considering the focal point of this movie is based on the "artwork" you'd think they would have at least come up with paintings that didn't look as if a 3rd grader made them 5 minutes before they started filming....they are truly laughable. Then there's the acting, it is some of the worst I've ever seen, which to me ruins this movie on it's own regardless of the ridiculous paintings and excruciatingly pathetic "story line" which feels as though the same 3rd grader that made the paintings also wrote the script. I wish I could have given this movie negative stars, and it's sad that the rating is as high as it is right now but it's clearly from fake reviews given by the cast and/or crew of the film. Just trust my honest review here though and stay away from this film if you value your time and don't end up forever regretting having wasted an hour and a half of your day on this steaming pile of garbage.

Sure it sucks! But what else do you have to do?

Pretty sure this is supposed to be campy campiness of camp. not so special special effects, a villian spitting chewed scenery all over the place, and what the hell is up with the hookers terrible wig? At 300 bucks an hour, surely she could afford some decent extensions. I was looking forward to some greico goodness but hes only in the first 5 minutes, never to be seen again :( I did enjoy the actual artwork in the film, some really interesting macabre art type of things. And the plot is interesting, i dont think ive seen this exact concept before. However.... definitely needs some real actors, more believable dialogue and a budget. But, the original kills are worth a star or 2. If youre a loser like me and want something mindless and kind of entertaining while knitting sweaters for your cat, its worth a watch.

So excited to review this, shamelessly bad!

Ok so what's excites me about this move is that it's hands down, by far, without a shadow of a doubt, the worst thing I've seen on the big screen.

Granted, I had to leave the theather 30 minutes in because it was just unbearable, everyone attending had to be so confused at how they were spending their hard earned cash in such an underwhelming joke of a production.

How did they have the courage to package this and deliver it as the abomination it is, a big mistery. Boy I doubt nobody said hey everyone this is really one big pile of doo, maybe we should scratch the whole thing and save a few bucks, and not look like absolute fools.

Sunk cost fallacy I'd guess.

I even thought perhaps they were trying to make it bad, something so abruptly sad could be intentional but that's not the case, this is just a massive flop! Avoid at all cost!

Killer Paintings!!!

What a good way to use art as in this way. The acting is OK but the story, directing and cinematography was very good. The ending was a tad to long but very good movie over all. Don't believe the haters.

That was so terrible, I think it gave me cancer!

This piece of garbage should go down in history as the 8th deadly sin. Seriously, stay far, far away.. Then run another 100 miles & you might be safe.. ..though highly doubtful.

Loved it!

Looking for a HORROR movie to watch? Looking for something different? Look no further! Art of the Dead will take you there... All seven painting are cursed! Try not to stare into the eyes of each painting too long. Each one of these evil painting will get inside your mind and cause all hell to break loose! Be warned...this movie is not for the squeamish. My wife who also enjoys horror movies, turned her head a few times during some intense scenes (no spoilers here). As mentioned, this is a horror movie which includes blood, gore, evil and more. The cast was great! So many great actors and actresses in this film including well known Richard Grieco and Tara Reid! Go check this movie out and be ready to experience the Seven deadly sins!

Poorly executed

The storyline is not too bad indeed but it's poorly film and executed. Just feel like not a professional movie and very 80s level of technique. Rating 6.5, no way.....

Another horribly written and directed movie from a low budget hack

When someone like a director who just makes spittle like this to watch girls get naked because he can't score on his own, you know it's going to be bad. From his first movie where he talks about how a horror movie is made to blaming Scream for stealing his idea (which by the way, the concept was not invented by you) the irony is that you are stealing from every trope but doing it badly, like a really bad cover band. But then I guess all he wants to do is continue to vomit out these things.

90 minute and 7 tales -- after 10 minutes of credits

The opening is 10 minutes of slow moving credits. This film is horrible. It's directed like a bad 70's horror compilation.

The acting is non-existent the script is moronic and the special effects are a throw back to the 60's

But I must say that heroin chic Tara Reid, who has a walk on has nice juggs.
