What ?!?!?!?!?

Where did this gem of a film come from ?!?!!?? 2017 ? How did i miss this for so long ? .... its amazing - FACTS ... the acting is great, in indie films FAR to often the acting is terrible and off putting when a film is trying to be serious ....however from the beginning you learn the workings of this family ...or non workings i should say ...but the acting there of is actually good and helps you to truly feel like its a family like any other during the holiday chaos ...it has a good dose of realism to it thats for sure

the lighting is solid ..... the editing is solid ...the FX are solid .... the characters are each fantastic and the perfect example of what "bigger" film directors etc like "rob zombie" should be doing .....instead of having everyone the exact same lol.... i mean obviously this crew of baddies are trashy and something you could easily imagine being in a rob zombie film ...HOWEVER in this film you can recognize every characters different ..they talk different act different .....even "turk" the "dogboy" like brother figure in this disgruntled family you can feel a backstory in him the way he begins to behave throughout the film ..... its honestly amazing story telling without even using words .....

the runners problems , the dads dark secrets , the brothers perversions that are expectations for us as an audience .....the mom ... the regular family is fantastic as well ....

its a basic home invasion film that seriously pushes the concept and keeps going , the pacing never lets up unike other home invasion films (the strangers, your next etc)) that try to hard to build tension and then bring it to a head and surprise you with some big twist ....this one just punches your senses and keeps attacking ....just like in the movie ....

so wow i was very pleasantly surprised here , i was hoping for a terrible film to make fun of and instead i got a film that i honestly loved, and wanted to finish watching and pay attention to the entire time ......

10/10 - yes for real.

Incredibly well directed and the writing surprised me in many great ways. Certain shots were pretty poignant and powerful and clearly well directed. A good one through and through.

The acting was pretty solid and there were some line deliveries that either cracked me up or put a shiver down my spine-the perfect horror balance.

You can see low budget issues rarely but it adds charm as it's very well done. Lots of interesting techniques like tripanel or certain gruesome scenes were tastefully and artfully shot that added more to the scare.

Overall 10/10 and expect a lot of great things from this director and writers.

...but this ain't one. This is a BAD holiday themed horror, with NO redeeming qualities. It's a home invasion movie featuring what I can only call the Dollar Tree version of Rob Zombie's Firefly Family (House of 1000 Corpses, The Devil's Rejects, and Three From Hell). This movie isn't cool, it's not funny, it's not campy, it's not shlock... I mean none of these adjectives can be used to grade this movie on a curve. It's just BAD, and pathetically so!

Awaking like usual for the holiday, a family trying to get through Thanksgiving are shocked to learn they've been targeted by a family of deranged and demented group of psychos and held hostage inside the house while they play psychotic games with the family until they finally decide to fight back against them.

This was a pretty decent and enjoyable genre effort. Among its better features is the absolute lunacy this brings up as an introduction to the depraved and demented members of the family which offers quite a lot to like. From the perverted grandparents constantly screwing each other, the hen-pecked husband who wants to get through the day without being insulted by anyone while his wife tries to stir his amorous affections, there's a rather demented and off-kilter atmosphere present here which is only enhanced by the wholly unrealistic behavior of the kids who are just as off with the perverted fantasies and under-the-radar drug use making them out to be just as troubled. It makes no wonder why they tend to bicker and fight with each other based on this early setup and it's all quite clearly matched by the antics of the intruding family who are just as deranged and even more psychotic. That goes a long way towards making the home invasion even more fun as they manage to just come off as the deranged kind to be quite intriguing with the antics on display. Not just content to waving guns around and asserting their authority over them because of that, the way they take over and force them into depraved games for their amusement offers up some fun times involving the sexual antics with the two kids and taunting threats towards the adults. Featuring plenty of brutal yet smartly non-lethal torture tactics from being brutalized with their guns or chopping their fingers off in front of everyone while generally acting like a deranged group of psychos offers the kind of generally enjoyable. As it goes on and they start offering up different kinds of tricks to keep the family from getting an upper hand as they foil their escape attempts for help or turning the tables when they try to get their house back, letting this one get some nice bloodshed and sense of carnage when this goes along. The short running time also helps, giving this one plenty to like about it. There are some issues to be had here which hold this one down. The main issue is the non-threatening group of psychopaths who are completely random in their actions, have no real game-plan and are not very imposing physically which is what requires the guns so anyone could've taken them in a fight and have a fair chance against them. That doesn't inspire fear and a lame attempt to try to do so at the end is too little too late to try that, which also tends to feature the other flaw in the weak ending to this one. The wholly stupid notion of not pressing the upper-hand when they finally have that is completely asinine when they stand around holding larger weaponry against the dwindled and scattered psychos who are now fighting with each other that offers up even more points to press the advantage they never follow-up on. That it devolves into a gunfight is unnecessary and just moronic which makes it hard to root for them at that moment, which is all that really holds this one down.

Derelicts (2017) is a Thanksgiving-themed movie I recently watched on Tubi. The storyline follows a family with some internal "family dynamic" issues that are about to get a lot worse. Just as they sit down for Thanksgiving dinner, a group of strangers bursts into their home, subjecting them to torture and intense interrogations. Under these disturbing circumstances, secrets and dark deeds begin to unravel.

Directed by Brett Glassberg (ABCs of Death 2 1/2) in his feature debut, the film stars Kelly Dealyn (12 Mighty Orphans), David Lee Hess (Fear the Walking Dead), Lana Dieterich (Teeth), and Les Best (Like Arrows).

The movie has a strong setup with intriguing characters and circumstances. It opens on a hilariously shocking note, with some crass humor that quickly establishes the family dynamics. The villains are menacing and portrayed effectively by the cast, creating a tense atmosphere. However, when it comes to the more violent scenes, including moments meant to be shocking, the film falls short, feeling poorly executed.

Overall, Derelicts had the elements for a worthwhile horror experience, but a lack of budget and creativity with effects kept it from reaching its potential. I'd rate this a 3.5/10 and recommend watching only if you adjust expectations accordingly.
