The best answer I can think of would be to increase awareness of the original animated film. However, said film was already released in the United States on April 7, 2017 with options for English voice and subtitles. It's also readily available worldwide for purchase online and in major retailers.
So if the language, distribution and availability barriers have been crossed, I suppose only the barrier of the medium. This movie must therefore be for those who would enjoy the original movie were it not animated, but we already know that the studio will be changing much of the original content for Western audiences and to fit an American setting.
I think logically that leaves the audience for this movie as people who just enjoy a good old fashioned body swap comedy. Freaky Friday made money and I think The Hot Chick made it's budget back, so I guess why not?
But please, if you're interested in this project, do yourself a favor and overcome whatever barriers are left in your way and give the original a try as well.
--------
EDIT: im gonna leave what someone else wrote it here, just to see their point. If you think about it, Hollywood has always made remake of foreigner movies, and the industry always change plot, character or plot to make it "home", but the truth is they will ruin it. (i mean, the previous user used as example "freaky friday" and "Hot chick" as something similar and those movie are really far away from what "your name" is and represent). Its a pity they cant make an original movie without disrespecting a beautiful story, just because some people are too lazy to read subtitles.
So, to make it short? money.
