I think it's a great satire about "Soul Train", which I thought was hilarious in its hey-day . . .

I find this show refreshing and informative. (Oddly enough)

First of all, I hope they put together a soundtrack. Really liked the songs. Loved Charade and the Temptations 11 sketches. Mary J was on point as well. John Legend and Common were a good laugh as well as the Brother you wrong segment. Good fun that I feel like was made for me.

I watched and then rewatched episodes 1 and 2, both crazy, jokes I missed the first time I got on the second viewing, "Drop it Low for Jesus" and "Time Loop" are hilarious but with sick beats.

The comedy version of Soul Train...and it is hilarious!!! The songs "That Aint Right" i actually downloaded because it is too funny...and "Drop it Low fod Jesus" had me in tears. The Charade (aka Prince) ep is full of laughs...as is the Barry Gordy one too. This is raw comedy - and I love it.

This pure genius, and I wish there was more creative efforts made like this. I described it as "R&B Spinal Tap meets the Mighty Boosh* All the other negative reviews I've read about this show come from people who just don't get it. Which is a shame.

I grew up watching Soul Train and Solid Gold, so having a show doing a straight up surreal parody of both those shows was magical. And the music. Is. LIT. The time, effort and creativity to craft songs that sound real and legit makes it that much better.

I hope that IFC gives us at least one (two?) more seasons of the mighty awesomeness.

This show is literally underrated. The ideas are so clever and relatable! The content was created with a specific cultural context in mind, which may be the reason for some of the mediocre reviews. I can't wait for season 2!

I was a white teenager in the 70s who loved 70s soul and funk and grew up watching Soul Train. I also loved BET's American Soul series about the early days of Soul Train. So, when I saw ads for this on IFC, I was really looking forward to this show. But I watched two episodes and just didn't find it at all funny. The only cool thing about this show is the original music which sounds like they could have been hits back in the day. I guess I will just have to wait for season 2 of American Soul....

Don't know why so many people hate this show. It's a straight-forward satire of Soul Train and a good one at that. It's silly and can be a little out there at times but just sit back and have fun with it. What makes this show even better is the music. I think the music is technically also satire but it's actually pretty good. The bands performances are usually over-the-top campy (on purpose) but the music is pretty solid. I would actually listen to this stuff if I could find it. Just give this show a try and try to ignore the bad reviews.

The show's creators have a great ear for music and they have tapped some of the most talented artists to assist in their genre-spoofing parodies. The best so far: "Time Loop" by "Galaxia" (co-written by Diallo, Phonte & Zo!). The show's comedy? Nay. See their other show, "South Side" for the funny.

This show is a masterpiece of comedy genius! If you grew up watching Soul Train, this show is for you! Excellent writing and acting. I love it!

Who in the hell thought this crap attempt at a "satire" of Soul Train would be funny? I was done after 10 minutes. I will give it 1 star for the quality of the video....that's it.

After watch The Mauritanian and seeing how Mohamedou Ould Slahi was tortured for months to give up information, a much quicker way to extort what the torturers wanted from the prisoner would have been to make poor Mohamedou watch a couple of episodes of this pathetic show.

I really tried to last the length of 2 episodes but had to give up.

How can anyone possibly find this show amusing?

Without doubt, the worst show ever made.

What amazes me is why anyone put money up to make it.

I'm a Black American and thought the episode I saw was just not funny. Disappointedly so since I'm all for clever comedic writing but this was just not funny. Maybe another episode would be different.
