A clearer picture is emerging of the shocking homicide that took place Saturday at the annual Burning Man Festival, the nine-day international desert gathering of thousands, as police in Nevada have identified the man found dead in a pool of blood on the grounds of the event. Yet further questions have emerged as details about the deceased Russian man, and what happened in the final few days, are beginning to crystalize.
The annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert, about 120 miles northeast of Reno, touts itself as an event that brings people together to “co-create art, community and shared experiences of awe.” But this week, a palpable police presence loomed over the penultimate and final day of this year’s celebration, with detectives questioning revelers in the temporary, man-made Black Rock City about a violent death and who was responsible.

It’s true that everyone tells a story from their own perspective. We all bring our own interpretations, biases and points of view into a situation, and those aspects color the way we see things. So what happens when we need to find the truth? When the events are uncontested, but the details and the way they are laid out and interpreted make all the difference?

There’s something I’ve never loved about the way shows like Columbo, Elsbeth, and Poker Face are structured.
We know who did it before the detective even walks into the room.
The body’s still warm, the crime’s barely been committed, and the audience is already in on the secret.
(NBC/Screenshot)
Sure, that’s the so-called “howcatchem” format — where the tension comes not from who did it, but from how the detective will pin them down.
And yes, Columbo perfected that structure decades ago. But let’s be honest: what really made Columbo work wasn’t the reveal. It was Columbo.

Telling and retelling a story from different points of view is by now a well-established trick, its cinematic form most strongly associated with Akira Kurosawa’s Rashomon. It’s particularly interesting as a mechanism for teasing out social prejudices and exploring the different factors that influence who is deemed most credible. In Kyrgyzstan, where the status of litigants is often a significant factor in the struggle between the law as it is written and the law as it is practised, Radik Eshimov’s Burning invites readers to tease out the truth behind a family tragedy but also to identify the wider social forces that shaped its participants.

Netflix has announced one of its next Korean movies, and it will see a major director return after several years. Ever since Squid Game drove up interest in Korean-language content back in 2021, the streamer has been leaning in to projects from the country. Earlier this year, they announced plans for 29 such projects to come out in 2025.
So far, this has taken the form of Netflix K-dramas such as Weak Hero Class 2, When Life Gives You Tangerines, and Squid Game season 3. More recently, Netflix also released the film Wall to Wall. While it got mixed reviews, the movie has become one of Netflix's most popular non-English titles.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix has now announced another major Korean-language project. This will be a movie called Possible Love, set to be directed by Lee Chang-dong. I have been back a day since leaving the final leg of Fantasia, and I quickly started hating everything, everyone, and everywhere that isn't the festival. Feels good to be back to normal. All throughout the festival, attendees were reminded that they could vote on their favorite features and shorts throughout the event. And this is quite the surprise, French comedy thriller Flush took home gold for Best International Feature. It's good, like really good. The biggest surprise for me during my time at the fest. Hey, you never know what sticks with an audience. The Best Asian Feature deservedly went to the horror thriller, Burning, with the crowd-pleasing superhero action movie Hi-Five following up with Silver. And Best Canadian Feature went to...

After an 8-year-long hiatus, Lee Chang-dong is all set to make a comeback with Possible Love. The movie is said to be a Korean French production backed by Netflix. It also features a stellar ensemble with the likes of Jeon Do-yeong, Seol Kyung-gu, Jo In-Sung, and Cho Yeon-jeong (as per Variety). These are some of the most famous faces of Korean cinema, all set to present their acting chops in Possible Love.
If we talk about the plot, while major details are tightly under wraps, what we do know is that it will follow two very different married couples whose lives collide unexpectedly. This then leads to emotional conflicts and personal revelations. This movie would also mark Lee Chang-dong’s first-ever Netflix debut. With this, he will join the slew of Korean hits already dominating the platform.

Radik Eshimov’s Burning is a multi-pov Horror story with nosey neighbors, evil spirits, dead kids, and some really clever camerawork. The movie makes no illusions about its connections to Kurosawa’s Rashomon and instead serves as a modern re-imagining of how we engage with subjectivity. It’s a twisty-turny narrative that strives to provide a few good scares and finds time to talk about the excuses people make to avoid acknowledging domestic abuse.

The upcoming Season 3.5 update in Marvel Rivals is stacked with team-up changes thanks to the changes mentioned in the new patch notes, alongside several other new additions such as maps, skins, etc.
While these new additions are taking the spotlight, you may not want to miss out on whatever’s happening behind the scenes. Major changes are coming to certain team-up abilities as Marvel Rivals, as several superheroes are mildly unbalanced with their powers.
While the previous updates did nothing more than tweak the team-up abilities, it’s not the same this time. The developers, NetEase Games, have decided to break a lot of team-ups to eradicate the unfairness brought by their unhinged power combinations. A silver lining is that some new team-ups can fill the void for you. That being said, the coming update is going to change the scenario, so be prepared.

Sitarist, composer, and performer Rishab Rikhiram Sharma opens up about a deeply spiritual and artistic experience at Manikarnika Ghat, Varanasi, which inspired his latest release The Burning Ghat. What began as a moment of quiet reflection amidst the raw energy of India’s holiest cremation ground soon evolved into a powerful creative vision one that bridges the spiritual symbolism of Burning Man and the sacred rituals of Kashi, giving rise to the concept: From Burning Man to The Burning Ghat.
Reflecting on the experience, Rishab shared, “Shooting at Manikarnika Ghat was a deeply moving experience. We were surrounded by real rituals, real people, and the powerful energy of letting go. Performing the Ganga Aarti with the priests as the sun dipped behind the ghats was surreal the river shimmered with diyas, the chants echoed through the air, and there was a collective sense of reverence that humbled me. Elba McAllister’s Cineplex USA has pounced on the worldwide sales rights to “November” (“Noviembre”), the feature debut of Colombia’s Tomás Corredor, which world premieres at Toronto Film Festival (TIFF)’s Discovery program.
“November” revisits one of the darkest and most complex chapters of Colombia’s recent past, where ideology, violence and power collide in a harrowing descent into tragedy.
“We’re delighted to be representing Tomás Corredor’s debut feature, ‘November’ on the international stage. As Cineplex USA, it’s a privilege to work once more with producer Diana Bustamante and the team at Burning to bring this extraordinary story to audiences worldwide,” said McAllister.

Before Bong Joon‑ho’s Parasite swept the world with 2019 Oscar domination, another masterpiece, Lee Chang‑dong’s Burning (2018), adapted from Haruki Murakami’s short story ‘Barn Burning,’ set a high bar for contemporary cinema. A psychological thriller and critically acclaimed, the film was a hit at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, winning the Fipresci International Critics’ Prize.
Widely hailed as one of the best South Korean films ever made as well as one of the best movies of the 2000s, it also became the first South Korean film to make the final nine-film shortlist for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars. Yet despite that honor, it ultimately went un‑nominated, an omission that continues to be seen as a glaring oversight given its global impact and artistry.

They’re here! Montreal’s ravenous cinema fans begin their annual midsummer genre feast this week, as the Fantasia International Film Festival opens its 29th edition on July 16 with Ari Aster’s paranoia-fuelled ripsnorter “Eddington.”

Most shows are lucky if they make it past one season, but when you're a franchise as massive as "Pokémon," there's no amount of seasons that would be enough, it seems. While the "Pokémon" games started in 1996 with "Pocket Monsters Red & Green" for the Game Boy, it was only a year later that an animated series premiered on TV Tokyo, spawning one of the longest-running anime of all time.
Each season of the "Pokémon" anime follows the adventures of Ash Ketchum, a 10-year-old boy who begins his journey to become a Pokémon master with his first partner Pokémon, Pikachu. Along the way, Ash catches more Pokémon, competes in tournaments, and befriends powerful trainers. It's one of the few anime series where there's no correct order to watch, given that each episode stands on its own as much as it tells an ongoing story of Ash's travels across the world of Pokémon.

It seems that the progress of Kyrgyz cinema—at least as presented in Bishkek this year—is being channeled through mainstream tropes. After the excellent horror title “Burning”, the next production that seemed to have similar potential was “Mergen” (both feature Omurbek Izrailov in the protagonist role), a noirish crime drama that ultimately won the Central Asian Competition in Bishkek, along with the Fipresci Jury Prize.
Mergen is screening at Bishkek International Film Festival
The story begins in the fictional Kyrgyz town of Mergen, nestled in the Tian Shan mountains, in 1987. During the ceremonial opening of a gold mining shaft by the local Communist leader, police officer Momun suffers an epileptic seizure. In the present day, a vlogger discovers a corpse while recording footage in the same mountainous area and passes the video to police investigator Nurtay, who begins his investigation. Nurtay, who appears to be romantically involved with the local coroner,...

The Rashomon effect is one of the most fascinating cinematic devices, though it remains notoriously difficult to execute successfully. Nevertheless, Radik Eshimov applies it in triple fashion in his horror work “Burning”, while also infusing the narrative with potent social commentary.
Burning is screening at Bishkek International Film Festival
In a suburban village, a house is on fire. It belonged to a young family that had recently lost their firstborn child. Neighbors gather to exchange rumors about what happened and who is to blame for the blaze, the husband, the wife, or the mother-in-law. Three conflicting versions of the tragedy are presented, and it is up to the viewer to decide which story holds the truth.
The first version ventures fully into horror territory. The mother-in-law emerges from the start as a sinister presence, shifting the narrative immediately toward the supernatural. The wife is framed as the clear victim, while...

If you’ve successfully leaped out of a helicopter with a burning parachute and lived 15 times, you’re not going to like Tom Cruise too much now. Guinness World Records awarded the actor, who performs his own stunts, with the title for “most burning parachute jumps by an individual.” Cruise pulled off the stunt 16 times while filming Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.
A new 80-second promo clip for the movie shows Cruise plummeting earthward, his cheeks all flippy floppy, as he looks up to see his chute on fire.

As we're closing in on the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, new reports start to paint a clearer picture of what the movie could be about. Interestingly enough, the wall-crawler's upcoming adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has shifted a lot over the past few months. What was almost guaranteed to be a multiversal tale featuring Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock is now shaping up to be a street-level epic involving many different characters.
Scorpion, Toombstone, and Boomerang are all rumored to make an appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Mr. Negative acting as the main antagonist in what would be his live-action debut. With so many villains on the horizon, it isn't a surprise to learn Marvel might plan for Spidey to team up with someone else to save the day. But while fans' minds could instantly think about Daredevil or even The Human Torch, it seems...

Earlier this month, it was reported that Disney had shown a brief sizzle reel for Avengers: Doomsday and concept art for Spider-Man: Brand New Day at a Disney Blockbuster Consumer Products presentation in Las Vegas.
Reddit's Pomojema_The_Dreamer (who also writes for Star Wars News Net) has now shared more potential details from the event, supposedly from that original leaker. While this information can't be verified, it's gaining traction on social media, and there's nothing here that's too hard to believe.
Avengers: Doomsday reportedly begins in Wakanda, with Shuri, Namor, and M'Baku all donning new costumes. The Sentinels we've seen scattered in front of the X-Mansion are said to be under Doctor Doom's control, with the X-Men—joined by Deadpool, Gambit, Shang-Chi, and the Invisible Woman—forced to fight them.
As previously reported, the mutant team's costumes are now comic-accurate rather than the unpopular black leather outfits used in Bryan Singer's movies.

While it’s been an interminably long seven years since 2018’s Burning premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, Lee Chang-dong has kept busy. A quartet of restorations of his early works recently debuted, while a collection of short stories was released in English just a few months ago. The filmmaker has also been dropping breadcrumbs that he’s planning a new feature, and now a few more details have arrived.
With a title of 가능한 사랑 (translated as Possible Love), Lee Chang-dong is planning a shoot as early as this fall with the hope to be completed by the first half of next year in time for a hopeful Cannes 2026 premiere, as reported by Naver. While no plot details have been unveiled yet, the cast would include Jeon Do-yeon (Secret Sunshine), Seol Kyung-gu (Peppermint Candy), and Jo In-sung (Moving). The project is reportedly a Korean-French co-production; expect more details to be unveiled soon.

At some point in Oliver Laxe’s beguiling new film Sirat, a character asks a fellow traveler their thoughts on what the end of the world might feel like. The friend considers the question before responding, somewhat half-heartedly: “It’s been the end of the world for a long time.”
This sentiment haunts Sirat, which seemingly takes place in a near-apocalyptic future and follows a group of ravers as they journey through the Moroccan desert in search of one last party. Home for this crew is a worn-out caravan, stocked with food, water and other provisions. Community is anyone they meet either at or on their way to dance parties. And on the occasion they turn on the radio, the news warns of escalating wars, depleting resources and a breakdown in diplomatic relations. The harshness of this world, conjured by Laxe with his signature painterly vision, feels a lot like our own.

On Thursday, May 15, another sad birthday party went down on Days of Our Lives. Tate threw a two-person party for Sophia’s 18th birthday. Then he caught a fever and became completely queasy, ending his makeshift shindig early. Alex wondered if Xander could ever give Philip a second chance. Marlena found out that the Isa was closing in on John’s location. And Operation Steal Versivez took off on two separate fronts.

Now we see why Sarah (Linsey Godfrey) recently had that emergency allergic reaction to the pistachio milk in that scone. It was to give Xander (Paul Telfer) leverage with Paulina (Jackée Harry) and Abe (James Reynolds). Of course, he really didn’t want to sue Sweet Bits for Chanel’s (Raven Bowens) careless and distracted mistake.
When Paulina brought him a perfectly nut-free dessert from Sweet Bits, she and Xander got down to the heart of the matter.

Acid’s closing film, shot in the Colombian desert, tells the story of Ciro, who returns to his home town after 10 years to tend to his dying mother, confront those he has abandoned as well as a legacy.

When I first heard that Hitsujibungaku was doing their first West Coast tour, there was no way I was going to miss it. As any dedicated superfan would do, I immediately flew across the country to see them live and ask firsthand what their experience in the US was like. The soul-stirring trio has been unstoppable lately, from releasing anime hits like “Burning” ( Oshi No Ko ) and “more than words” ( Jujutsu Kaisen ) to one of the most emotionally compelling alt-rock albums in the past few years, 12 hugs (like butterflies) . I caught up with Shiotsuka Moeka (vocal and guitar) and Kasai Yurika (bass) as they wrapped up their first US tour to chat about a few of their stops, growing in the global music scene, and what’s next for the band. Rachel Feldman’s Lilly (2024) unfolds a distinctly American saga—Lilly Ledbetter’s legal crusade against Goodyear for pay equity—yet it resonates well beyond U.S. borders. Co‑written with Adam Prince, this 93‑minute feature places Patricia Clarkson at its center, channeling Ledbetter’s quiet determination as she moves from a 1979 factory floor to the halls of the Supreme Court.
From the opening reenactment of Ledbetter’s 2008 Democratic Convention address, the film weaves together dramatized scenes and archival footage, prominently featuring clips of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. This hybrid approach—equal parts narrative and documentary—mirrors techniques found in global art‑house cinema, where historical realism is often punctuated by reflexive commentary. The grayscale-to-color shift, triggered by Ledbetter’s first meeting with her lawyer, Jon Goldfarb, evokes visual signaling strategies seen in European political dramas, yet here it underscores the personal stakes of a legal battle rooted in regional labor culture.

This probably won't come as much of a surprise to anyone who's been paying attention, but Marvel movies like "Thunderbolts*" tend to undergo quite a bit of change during their development. Sometimes, that comes in the form of massive reshoots, like this year's "Captain America: Brave New World" unfortunately experienced to its detriment. Other times, it can be a result of a creative team trying to find the best possible ideas on the fly. And then there's that secret third option, where actors' schedules simply get in the way of the original plan. That's what happened with Steven Yeun's original casting as Bob/Sentry/the Void in "Thunderbolts*," a parting of ways that became necessary as a result of the duel WGA/SAG-AFTRA strikes in 2023 and the delaying of Marvel's latest team-up movie to 2025. That role ultimately went to Lewis Pullman, and it's safe to say things worked out for the best,...

In the Thursday, May 1 episode of Days of Our Lives, Gabi stayed busy clashing with Leo, Javi, and Philip. She also had time to order Alex to create the perfect “platonic” date for them. And Xander and Alex commiserated over getting Philip out of Titan. Meanwhile, Kayla, Steve, and Shawn all worried about this miracle drug that could cure Bo’s sepsis. As a result, Shawn brainstormed what he thinks is a brilliant idea. It could get him in trouble.
A Salem Heist
First, it was nice seeing Shawn (Brandon Beemer) thank Jada (Elia Cantu) for keeping him company the night before. It was smart considering what happened the last time Shawn spiraled because of what he did to his dad. She made sure that he didn’t flounder enough that he turned to drink.
But he continued to blame himself and won’t stop until Bo (Peter Reckell) returns to them healthy and whole.

Old Skies unfolds in a near-future New York City where time travel has become a luxury service run by ChronoZen. Players step into the shoes of Fia Quinn, a chronolocked agent whose own timeline remains steady while the city around her ripples and reshapes. Rather than grand cosmic upheavals, the game focuses on intimate missions: clients pay to glimpse or alter moments in their personal histories—recovering lost heirlooms, revisiting a long-gone mentor, or sparing a single life.
Each of the seven chapters transports Fia to a distinct era—from the gaslit streets of the 19th century through jazz-tinged 1920s speakeasies to the neon glow of 2062—framed as standalone adventures that gradually interlock around Fia’s emotional core. Despite its point-and-click roots, Old Skies embraces high-definition art and a jazz-inflected score that evoke each period without heavy exposition, letting visuals and sound guide players through shifting timelines.
