Sony Pictures' woebegotten Spider-Man Universe (no Spider-Man included) kicked off in 2018 with the surprise hit of "Venom," and now has seemingly ended with the disastrous "Kraven The Hunter." Marvel Studios' next Tom Holland Spider-Man adventure might have found its director.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Destin Daniel Cretton is in talks to direct Spider-Man's next adventure set after the climactic events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Cretton, who previously joined Marvel for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, was originally selected for the fifth Avengers film Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, though he has since been replaced by the Russo Brothers and the movie will now be titled Avengers: Doomsday.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe's next Spider-Man film will be a fresh start for Peter Parker, but it should not abandon this part of No Way Home.

In the Lethal Protector miniseries, Venom discovered his vulnerability to being overwhelmed by sound the hard way, when he underestimated "Z-list" villain Humbug, and was defeat with loud insect noises. Humbug's use of sound technology made him a surprisingly dangerous adversary for Venom, exposing the symbiote's most notable weakness. Even the most astute Marvel readers may not be familiar with Humbug, making him a surprising – though no less effective – adversary for Venom.

As strong as Venom is, he has two major weaknesses; both fire and noise can do significant damage to the symbiote, and this allowed one low-level villain to defeat Venom with ease. While Venom has regularly gone up against heavy-hitters like Spider-Man, and dark gods like Knull, the one villain that took Venom down with ease is one only the most hardcore Marvel fans have ever heard of.

Marvel should follow up on Galactus-Venom, a combination of the two iconic villains that it teased back in 1992. Venom, as well as Galactus, have become more heroic characters over the years, evolving away from their antagonistic origins. Combining the two would be a great way to further their respective journies while fulfilling the promise of Galactus-Venom. Galactus-Venom could be the only one capable of stopping the dangerous and powerful god-level Carnage, making his resurrection crucial for the sake of salvation.

An issue of Web of Spider-Man from the 1990s once teased a version of Galactus that had bonded with the Venom symbiote – while this turned out to be a trick, conjured by perennial Spidey villain mysterio to startle the Webslinger, the apparition of Galactus-Venom provides a tantalizing prospect for Marvel fans, one the company should follow up on.

The upcoming Madame Web movie trailer has faced criticism for its lackluster characters and exposition-heavy dialogue, further fueling dissatisfaction with Sony's cinematic universe attempt. Web of Spider-Man, a fan series by Infinity Entertainment, offers a more compelling and underrated take on Spider-Man's story, with gritty fight scenes and a well-developed narrative involving familiar characters like Green Goblin and Black Cat.

Many of the villains in Spider-Man's rogue gallery are iconic in their own right, for one reason or another. The Wallcrawler is consistently trying to save his villains and some have made better strides than others. Spider-Man's antagonists always find a way to bounce back, whether it's for the better or worse.

Though some of Spidey's foes are relentless and pure evil, a great number of them are simply folks who had a bad break. From mentally harmful pasts, to being down on their luck, these villains have tried to make their way through challenges when the odds are stacked against them. In the process, some have become heroes; others have become likable, even as they remain antagonists to Spider-Man.
