Exclusive: Set to begin filming in June, Indonesia-Singapore-uk co-production The Ghost and the Gun will star Malaysian actors Gambit Saifullah (Alter-Naratif) and Fabian Loo (One Cent Thief), Indonesian actress Asmara Abigail (Stone Turtle) and American actor Brett Tutor (Black Doves).

The film is set in 1948 and follows a pair of soldiers abandoned by the British in Malaysia after the war. Both soldiers soon find themselves having to defend a village from rebel warlords.

Filming will commence in Bali, Indonesia at the newly-built Viking Sunset Studios.

The Malay-and English- language film will be the third feature film from Anshul Tiwari (Netflix’s Before Life After Death).

The Ghost and the Gun producers include Debasmita Dasgupta (Films Positive), Mikail Mahmud Chowdhury (Ldno Productions) and Tim Willrich (Limbo Pictures).

Misfit Productions co-founder Jessie White will serve as the film’s executive producer, with The Ghost and the Gun marking the company’s first narrative feature film involvement.

The hero's journey is a tale as old as time itself, after struggling through trials and tribulations, the protagonist scores a spectacular win that changes everything. While victories come in many forms, the best of them are always extremely satisfying to see, and this goes for the medium of anime too.

Palme d’Or-winning filmmaker Jacques Audiard and rising director Léa Mysius reminisce about presenting their respective debut features, “See How They Fall” and “Ava,” at Cannes’ Critics’ Week in an exclusive video celebrating the 60th anniversary of the sidebar.

Under the helm of Charles Tesson since 2011, Critics’ Week, which is dedicated to first and second films, has showcased more dozens of emerging filmmakers over the years. Some of them will have their latest movies unspool in competition at the festival. These include Audiard with “Paris, 13th District” which was co-written with Mysius and Celine Sciamma, as well as Julia Ducournau (“Raw”) with “Titane,” and Nadav Lapid (“The Kindergarten Teacher”) with “Ahed’s Knee.”

Audiard and Mysius are two of the 60 talents and artists who have shared testimonies about Critics’ Week brought to their lives and careers through videos and letters. Critics’ Week is unveiling these tributes throughout the month of June.

Netflix’s latest acquisition spree includes a splash of sibling synchronicity.

The streaming service on Wednesday announced that that it has acquired the rights to seven classic Black sitcoms, including ’90s hits Sister, Sister and Moesha. Additional titles include Girlfriends, Half & Half, The Parkers, One and One and the first three seasons of The Game.

Netflix has announced that Ratched — the Ryan Murphy/Ian Brennan-produced prequel series starring Murphy muse Sarah Paulson as the titular asylum nurse from hell — will premiere on Sept. 18. Season 1 will consist of eight episodes.

The Umbrella Academy gang is reuniting in a whole new era… and from the looks of this sneak peek, they’re not finding the 1960s to be all that groovy.

Netflix has released the opening scene of Season 2 ahead of this Friday’s premiere, and it finds Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five dropped in a Dallas alleyway on November 25, 1963. But instead of a nation mourning the JFK assassination, he finds the streets overrun by Russian troops and tanks, with a newspaper headline blaring, “Soviets Attack U.S., JFK Declares War on Reds.” Yikes… maybe the assassination saved us from an even worse alternate timeline?...

Screen Australia is providing more than $400,000 in story development funding for 16 projects including feature films, television and online series, featuring such talent as Bruna Papandrea, Nick Verso, Priscilla Cameron, Lisa Shaunessy, Anthony Mullins, Kodie Bedford and Tegan Higginbotham.

The slate includes The Agency, a musical comedy about moral corruption in the advertising industry, comedic horror Gnomes centered on grudge-bearing garden gnomes in a fictional regional town, and the feature Misfit, which looks at a woman who suffers from an identity disorder.

Eleven projects were funded through the Generate fund, two via the Premium fund and three through the legacy development program which has been discontinued.

TruTV brought Bobcat Goldthwait’s tv show Misfits and Monsters to San Diego Comic Con. Bobcat Goldthwait, truTV’s scripted anthology series Bobcat Goldthwait’s Misfits & Monsters mashes up wildly different genres to tell suspenseful stories with funny, imaginative twists. Each distinct episode turns familiar tropes inside out to create a curated and eclectic collection of stories filled with equal parts nostalgia and modern satire. Guest stars throughout the eight-episode first season include Michael Ian Black, Bridget Everett, Dave Foley, Seth Green, Melissa Joan Hart, David Koechner, Danny Pudi and more.

The series runs for thirty minutes and with an eight- episode run for season 1. The series is produced by Left/Right with Goldthwait, Banks Tarver, Ken Druckerman, Olivia Wingate and Michele Armour serving as executive producers.
