Van Patten family project

This Van Patten family project is based on a true incident that happened to star Vincent Van Patten back in the 90s. He did actually make a bert he could walk from Los Angeles to Las Vegas in 7 days. vince wrote the script allegedly based on some Hollywood characters he knew. They must have been some colorful bunch.

That's the strength of 7 Days To Vegas, the colorful characters that creator Vince Van Patten drew. The film is structured a whole lot like the Martin Scorsese classic Casino. As that is a real favorite of mine I couldn't help but like 7 Days To Vegas.

The villain of the piece is Ross McCall a full of himself director with a big bankroll who likes to take chances. He doesn't have even surface likability, but the money keeps people hanging on and he's a good gambler.

The climax belongs to brother James Van Patten. I won't say more, you have to see it to believe it.

This is one good enjoyable almost caper like film.

Not bad.

Pretty cool story. I can't believe this is actually true. Wasn't the greatest movie but definitely watchable. Found myself trying to Google everything about this story. Come to find out most of the characters are basically 4 or 5 people mixed into one. I wonder who the big film producer was. I'm guessing Charlie Sheen was the famous actor with a drug problem.

Funny, adventurous, twisted.

The film is well written, beautiful cinematography, super entertaining, with a gambling-tense comedy story line, well developed characters variety and a super twist. I enjoyed it. I laughed.

A lighthearted, clever romp

The Sting, this movie is not. But it definitely was a guilty pleasure if you enjoy films with a plot twists and "gotchas" at the end. Van Patten stars as the narrator and main character in this ensemble cast of degenerate, quirky gamblers. These characters distract viewers along the journey towards the somewhat predictable ending. But despite knowing the destination, I still had a good time.

Just Plain Lame

This is one of those D-list actor films just made for vanity. The writing comes off as dumb. It's a story about a bunch of 13 year old boys stuck in old men's bodies, Poor Eileen Davidson. She was so great on Young and The Restless, and now she's stuck on The Old and the Dumb. Too bad she's aged Like them too. She must just be working for the craft service food these days. The film has a truly autistic feel to it. If there is a film festival somewhere that specializes in films made by Autistics, then they should enter this film in the festival. It might take a 3rd or 4th place out of 5 entrants. I always suspected that Vince VanPatten might be high on the autism spectrum because of the way he ejects off his seat when he's doing his WPT show.

Painful, You would waste less time walking to Vegas yourself.

This movie was painful to watch. When you start thinking of all the things you need to get done in your life you know a movie is bad, but good in that it directs you where you should be spending your time. This was time i was never going to get back. I didn't care about any of it and that is sad.

degenerate gamblers

Duke (Vincent Van Patten) has his friendly poker game in his home in the Valley. They are a variety of Hollywood adjacent people. When their game gets robbed, Duke moves it to a higher-class Beverly Hills bar. Poker game shows start blowing up on TV. Duke attracts richer Hollywood types like arrogant director Sebastian (Ross McCall). Duke start making real money until a crooked private investor steals all his money. Sebastian cons him out of more money and steals his game. In frustration, he makes millions dollars bet with Sebastian that he could walk to Vegas in 7 days.

This is supposed to be inspired by true events. It certainly paints a realistic picture of the worst degenerate gamblers. They are ready to bet on anything at any moment. I love that they negotiate a detailed contract on the big bet. It is what degenerate gamblers do. I have to say that the final twist is obvious as soon as Sebastian picks the replacement. That loses the movie a bit at its climatic point. Otherwise, the 7 day bet is pretty compelling.

Just not worth the time

I thought there might be something worthwhile to see, based on the reviews, so I watched this whole, sorry movie. (at least there were some shots of the desert, which I like :) ) The acting is generally bad, and the plot is just not that believable. They tried to be a combination of "Oceans 11" and maybe "The Hangover", but didn't succeed in providing the entertainment of either. In typical Hollywood fashion, ample F-bombs were included, and a few semi-nudes; neither adding to the plot or value of the movie. Don't waste your time watching this. I can't believe it got funded!

I really liked this movie

What a fun film! I actually watched it twice which I never do. It's funny and I thought very well written. I found myself laughing out loud in some of the scenes. I loved the ending, but no spoiler info out of my mouth. I liked this film from start to finish! Bravo!!

Pleasant Surprise

Wasn't expecting much if anything from this, but it's a fun way to spend 94 minutes! Likeable characters and funny plot twists.

Meh

I've wasted an hour and a half on worse things. It had potential. With better acting and writing this would have a shot. Decent premise.

It's a story about...

Make your happiness based on other painful ness. So, when you have money, you go do whatever you want to screw other dignity. Story wasn't that funny as other reviews were written. Comedy can be inspiring and with soul but not this one.

Reality as Fiction as Reality

If this was actually presented as a reality show it would be a total disaster. But it is fiction "based on presumed real things some people might actually do" so for that it was at least fun to laugh at. It must have been written by a committee of wannabe writers/producers. What is real is that the concept makes it fun. How many times can two sides run a scam on each other? Many times. It was the only reason to watch this contrived accident. 5 stars is being generous. The fake quips about "what happened after/where are they now" lost at least 3 of their stars.

All narration....

There is way, way too much narration here. Almost as if someone somewhere forgot that film is primarily a visual medium.

Rather than filming scenes and characters interacting so the audience gets to know everyone, for some reason there's this constant, incessant, narration to explain everything, every setting, every motivation, and everyone.

One could have EASILY killed all the narration and actually filmed a movie. You know where actors act and interact, letting an audience SEE motivations and character idiosyncrasies.

But nope.. any non-narrated scene is approximately 1-2 minutes in length.. then back to another 5-10 minutes of narration. This continues the entire film.

Quite honestly it looked like it was going to be decent at the start... I figured it was narrated at the beginning to set up the characters more quickly and provide backstory that may not be feasible...... however, after 20 minutes of non-stop narration.. I hit fast forward to 30 minutes.... still the same narration pattern. Fast forward to 45 minutes.. still the same narration pattern.... to 60 minutes.. same... It's horrible.

This isn't a "film".. this is a radio program with background visuals. Characters are lost and have no impact because everything is over-explained through narration.

Blech.

Enjoyable movie. Should get higher ratings.

I clearly enjoyed it more than the actual ratings show and when I read the other reviews I'm apparently not the only one. Based on a true story, which makes it even better, 7 Days To Vegas is an easy to watch entertaining movie. I wouldn't say it's as funny as The Hangover, like some other reviewer wrote, but it has some good funny moments as well. Gambling on about anything, some hustling and cheating, a good cast and a well written plot makes this movie worth watching.

Mostly tiring but actually worth it

Briefly speaking, watching the first 90 percent of the movie was truly painful. It began quite well and got me interested but then all started to fall apart as more and more stupid proposals and agreements were made. It just didn't make any sense and I felt like the main character was constantly taken advantage of and just abused. Numerous plot twists didn't make it easier either. But finally, the ending scenes made it worth watching. I was pretty surprised and I enjoyed it. Difficult at first but enjoyable in the end.

7 Days to Vegas

7 Days to Vegas is a romp movie inspired by the life of Vincent Van Patten. He is an actor who became a poker player and later a poker commentator. His real life brother plays his fictional brother in the movie.

Van Patten who has been immersed in the world of gambling pokes fun at gamblers and the absurd lengths they go to for various dares and side bets. Elements of the film are inspired by movies such as Battle of the Sexes and Christopher Nolan's The Prestige.

Van Patten plays Duke, a down on his luck actor who turned to underground poker games and made so much money, he had to bury a lot of it in his back garden. When Duke loses his money in a bad investment, he accepts a side wager by an obnoxious British film director that he can walk from the San Fernando Valley to Las Vegas in just one week. A distance of 280 miles but it will be in the blazing sun.

Duke has to do this while wearing a suit, no hat but he can take regular breaks in a RV that will follow him to make sure he does not cheat. The RV includes his gambling friends and foes, most of them are wacky like a man with a vulgar puppet ventriloquist act.

This is a lighthearted movie with an overkill of a voiceover that soon becomes irritating. The Scots actor playing the British director mimics Jason Statham for some reason. It has too many deliberate wacky characters that get lost in the mix. It moves along at a breezy pace unlike Duke after a few days of walking and it also has few dirty tricks tucked away.

Instant Classic-- In the Lineage of Goodfellas and Big Lebowski

In the character-driven lineage of such classics as Goodfellas and Big Lebowski, and True Romance; Walk to Vegas features a brotherhood that operates on an informal black market economy that is impervious to the rules of law other than the innate sense of honor established through direct eye contact, firm handshakes, and camaraderie; a den of high-stakes Hollywood gamblers continuously engaging one another in ever-more outrageous ante-upping dares and bets, that culminate in our protagonist, Vincent VanPatten's attempting a walk from LA to Vegas in seven days in a suit! The characters of the instant classic-- played by such greats as Eileen Davidson, Jennifer Tilly, Danny Pardo, Paul Walter Hauser, and James VanPatten, are straight out of Cervantes; the result: pure comic genius!

Loved the story

This film works big time as fun, gambling, road movie. Great twists and turns that kept the audience engaged the entire time. This could be a franchise film, like Hangover. It's even better.

A real inside look into the world of degenerate prop bet gambling

I can't really say I grew up a big gambler. Nothing hard core and certainly nothing that interfered with my financial status. However I do know 2 guys who are straight out of this movie, 2 gambling degenerates that would bet on ANY AND EVERYTHING. One is my brother the other a friend. Today, they're both flat broke.

7 days to Vegas is a refreshing movie considering all the misses that Hollywood tries to feed us these days. It gives us an inside look at degenerate prop bet gambling at it's best & worst and once again I can vouch that the movie portrays the real deal.

Some guys will do ANYTHING to win a bet to try and stay one step ahead of their opponent but if their opponent is as sneaky as they are, a back and forth struggle ensues. That's exactly the case in this movie. The comedy mixes in well to make this a fun movie and very enjoyable to watch. I will admit the ending was predictable for me (maybe it's because I hung around characters like this my entire life) but nonetheless it was still very good.

Vince Van Patten stepped out of his WPT commentating job to hit one out of the park with this one. As Vince's late great WPT partner Mike Sexton would say, "nice going Vince."
