Now, I happened to stumble upon the 2017 Thai movie "Kud Krachak Krien" (aka "Zombie Fighters") by random chance here in 2025. And with it being a zombie movie, of course I needed no persuasion to watch it. In fact, the movie combines two of my favorite things in cinema; zombies and Asian cinema, so it was a win win.
Or so I thought.
The storyline in the movie is so simplistic that it is almost non-existing. A group of young people venture into an old abandoned hospital, where there once was a zombie outbreak. And of course, the zombies are still there. And that was essentially it, end of story.
But there are so many plot holes and things left unanswered. Such as, where was the army? Why didn't people know about the outbreak that happened years earlier? Why not just leave the confines of the hospital? Yeah, writer and director Poj Arnon didn't exactly reinvent the plate here with this addition to the zombie genre.
The movie is insanely formulaic and repetitive. It is essentially just the same scene shown over and over; the young people venture to a point in the hospital, zombies show up, the young people act like children and then run off to a new place, where you just repeat the formula again and again. And that was essentially all there was to the movie. And it grew tiresome and repetitive quite fast. I made it about two-thirds through the ordeal, then I just tossed the towel in the ring out of sheer and utter boredom.
I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in the movie, and I didn't really care much for the acting, because it was essentially just whining and crying.
Now, something that worked well in the movie was actually the zombie effects and make-up. Sure, this was not matching the likes of "The Walking Dead" and that kind of special effects. But the effects in "Kud Krachak Krien" were actually fair. Just a shame that the storyline and acting was holding it back.
This was a very boring, dull and forgettable foray into the Asian zombie genre. And it is not a movie that I would recommend you to watch, nor is a movie that I will ever return to attempt finish watching.
My rating of "Kud Krachak Krien" lands on a three out of ten stars.
