Thunderbolt Fantasy

I thought it was odd and interesting to see a puppet tv show but after the 1st episode I was hooked! You can appreciate the details that went into making this show. The special effects are amazing, along with the costume design, this show is overall unique, fun with great story telling.

I'll admit that the puppet action is pretty good. The best part of the series though is the great comedy writing, putting the characters in the most awkward or difficult situations for their character. They're able to have this much fun by solidly developing the characters so that the audience gets to know what they value, what they love, and especially what they hate. Especially great is the chemistry between Shang Bu Huang and Gui Niao, who knows exactly how to push all the right buttons.

This show has fantastic animation and action and I would highly recommend it. It is totally insane but once you watch it you'll understand its greatness.

From the opening fighting scene in the first episode I knew I found a good show but what I didn't know is that I found a GREAT show. For those who loved original great anime/Japanese classics like Ninja Scroll, FF7 or Metal Gear Solid, this show belongs with them. The characters; both heroes and villains, are what made me hooked into this series. The producers love every character they animated and it shows through out their progress in the story and in their interactions with each other. Every character serves an important role in the storyline and their dialogue is smart and funny. The fights are not just incoherent super moves but they do have strategic twists and surprises. The voice acting is superb and the animated puppets do come to life like you are watching a live action film. The story and the setting just makes me feel like I'm watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and for me this series deserve to be listed with that film as a great example of Chinese folklore.

I'm so glad that I stepped on this truly amazing hidden treasure. I am satisfied with it from the first episode until the last one without any episodes in between that were below my expectations. I sure hope that the producers keep delivering this level of amazing high standards in every aspect of Japanese entertainment.

Masterful puppetry acting, great voice acting, creative fight/action sequences and set production (with some minimal cgi support), snappy/witty dialogue and story, and intriguing characters. I never imagined in my life I'd see a puppet facepalm, but when it happened, my life felt complete. Super fun Wuxia.
