Exclusive: Blue Fox Entertainment has picked up U.S. rights to the romantic comedy The End of Sex, starring Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek) and Jonas Chernick (James vs. His Future Self), from Vortex Media. The film directed by Sean Garrity will be released in theaters nationwide in April, hitting theaters across Canada via Vortex at the same time.

World premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival, The End of Sex tells the story of a married couple (Hampshire and Chernick) who are feeling the pressures of parenting and adulthood. After they send their young kids to camp for the first time, they embark on a series of comic sexual adventures to reinvigorate their relationship.

We return to the Glasgow Film Festival this year that will see no less than 10 world premieres, including Ashgrove.

The festival marks the return of director and writer duo Jeremy Lalonde and Jonas Chernick who we spoke to at Gff 2020 (our chat is here) for their wonderfully crafted sci-fi love story, James vs His Future Self, starring Daniel Stern.

Ashgrove takes place during a pandemic that impacts the world’s water supply that mirrors in some ways current events. It stars Amanda Brugel who also co-wrote the script with director, Jeremy Lalonde, and co-star Jonas Chernick.

We speak to the trio ahead of the festival to talk about the script, filming in a serene location and more.

Exclusive: Schitt’s Creek star Emily Hampshire is starring in and executive-producing under-the-radar rom-com The End Of Sex, which has just wrapped in Hamilton, Canada.

Also starring are Jonas Chernick (James Vs His Future Self), Gray Powell (Sort Of), Lily Gao (Letterkenny) and Melanie Scrofano (Wynonna Earp).

The feature follows a young couple (Hampshire and Chernick), who feeling the pressures of parenting and adulthood, send their kids to camp for the first time and embark on a series of sexual adventures to reinvigorate their relationship.

Vortex Productions is behind the feature from director Sean Garrity who is re-teaming with his My Awkward Sexual Adventure collaborators Chernick and Hampshire. Chernick has also penned the script.

Vortex Media financed the picture, in association with Brainstorm Media. Vortex and Brainstorm will collaborate on the distribution plan. Worldwide rights remain open.

Exclusive: In a fitting piece of nominative determinism, punk-rock icon Iggy Pop has joined the cast of dark comedy Blue Iguana, currently filming in the Cayman Islands.

The Stooges frontman, whose first band was called The Iguanas, which led to his nickname Iggy, is taking on the supporting role of Edward, the wealthy patriarch whose death kicks off a chain of unfortunate events for son Daniel whose plan to reconnect with his siblings hits a snag when he discovers they all want to kill him for his inheritance.

As we revealed last month, starring are Joel David Moore (Avatar), Bob Saget (Fuller House), Jason Jones (The Flight Attendant), Carly Chaikin (Mr. Robot) and Mary Lynn Rajskub (24).

Blue Iguana is directed by Canadian filmmaker Jeremy Lalonde (James vs. His Future Self) from a script by Matthew Dressel (The Pilot is Dead).

Exclusive: Brazil’s Fantaspoa Fantastic Film Festival, which is the largest genre event in South America, has locked a partnership with local streaming service Darkflix to allow it to host its 16th edition online, and free for local audiences.

The 2020 edition of the fest was originally scheduled to take place in May this year, but had to be postponed due to the pandemic. As the virus is far from being contained in Brazil (the country now has both the second-highest number of infections and deaths in the world), organizers have ultimately decided that a physical edition will not be possible this year, and instead will pivot online.

Running July 24 – August 2, Fantaspoa will see Darkflix host a number of Latin American premieres of new genre films, and will feature a total of 110 features and shorts from 35 countries. Each title will have a cap of 5,000 viewers and will be geo-blocked for viewers in Brazil.

The Glasgow Film Festival throws up some great surprises and this year is no different.

Jeremy Lalonde’s James vs His Future Self is one of those little gems at the festival this year. This indie-comedy with a mix of sci-fi stars the formidable and the very much underrated, Daniel Stern.

In a varied career both acting and directing, we’ve come to know and love him for his roles such as Marv in Chris Columbus’ Home Alone. But roles in Diner, City Slickers, Rookie of the Year and many more showcase his talents.

We catch up with Daniel Stern to talk James vs His Future Self and more!

No doubt you get a lot of screenplays sent your way, so what was it for you that made James vs His Future Self stand out?

It was a really fun project to work on.

Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, Frank Sinatra, once proclaimed “Regrets, I’ve had a few” but what if you had a second chance to go back and change things?

You can, sort of, with James vs His Future Self which is an indie sci-fi comedy from the duo of Jeremy Lalonde (director and co-writer) and Jonas Chernick (star and co-writer). All is not what it seems in this touching story that stars the incredible Daniel Stern, which is showing at this years Glasgow Film Festival.

We caught up with Jeremy Lalonde and Jonas Chernick to talk time-travel and more.

Where did the idea come from and when did this project start for you guys?

Jonas: Jeremy cast me in a film we did in 2015 called How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town...

“Last Man on Earth’s” Cleopatra Coleman will star opposite Boyd Holbrook in Netflix’s “In the Shadow of the Moon.” Sources also tell Variety that Michael C. Hall and Bokeem Woodbine have joined the cast.

“Hap and Leonard” creator Jim Mickle is directing the movie from a script by Gregory Weidman and Geoff Tock. The film is expected to begin shooting later this year.

“Gregory and Geoff’s script is such a great mind bender and beautifully weaves together all my favorite genres,” Mickle said. “Boyd is going to eat this role alive and show why he’s one of the best young actors working today. We’re lucky to have an incredibly talented producing team and a home like Netflix that’s excited to take chances. Any studio that makes ‘Okja’ has a permanent place in my heart.”
