Recommended to watch. Beautiful fireworks. A beautiful fairy tale. The acting was superb. Whoever casting the actors and actress made a good job. The music is good, Although the end of the film is a little sad, but it makes you are longing for love and peace.

Turandot is one of Giacomo Puccinis most wellknown and beloved operas, and "The Curse of Turandot" follows the libreto as far as it is still recognizable, wich is quite remarkably.
Thus in the original operaversion the first suitor was a prince from Persia and the slavegirl Liu dies while Princess Turandot and Calaf get married.
It took Puccini and crew 4 long years to figure out everything about the story and as usually with operas it ended up with some spectaculary adventure.
I give it a high score for sincerity to the originally opera, cutting, acting, casting, shooting, music and an overall pleasent experience.

I'm rating it so high because of the haters, i admit it.
The actual movie is not terrible, but definitely not fantastic in the acting, scriptwriting and editing departments.
BUT!
There is a surprising and unexpectedly wonderful atmosphere to it. The scenes and characters are setup with a style and homage to certain western elements, with some effort. There is something of lord of the rings and something of Disney in it, more or less subtly sprinkled in. So the side characters can be surprisingly colorful, and the emotions evoked very relatable for a western audience, despite being a Chinese movie through and through.
Likewise, i like the attempt to put eastern and western medieval cultures side by side. No effort spent in portraying culture clashes. Both cultures simply exist, bad things happens between them which are unrelated to cultural or racial differences. This fantasy world simply makes it all look normal. Physical differences are generally ignored and only mentioned as curious identifying traits, as the two races are naturally separated by location. It's a simply rendered, but a surprisingly compelling and wonderful reality, where goodness is shared between very different-looking people simply because it's good and evil fought together simply because it's evil. It's a freeing experience, and perhaps the image of a better world in its simplicity. It certainly won a soft spot in me and i recommend seeing it for the whole strange and wonderful experience, if not an exceedingly compelling one.

The core creative team has great ambitions, and all part is wonderful, except script.
It feels like that story takes place in China, but rule come from western.some royal etiquette doesn't make sense.maybe that's why Chinese audience didn't approve of this film.

Not perfect though.
Why the perfect score by me then?
Because others are being far too unfair.
It deserves an 8 out of 10, not 4.5 And no, I'm not Chinese, nor Oriental.
EDIT: finished the movie now. No change in what I said above but I will add that now I know why people are giving it terrible reviews: sexism and racism (the reviewers hate white men)
