Les Deux chemineaux

A young tramp asks for help at a farm house. He is turned away. Later, as supper is being eaten, another, older tramp asks for some food. The farmer gives him some. When the farmer's daughter says he should let him stay overnight, he's given a place in the hay loft. Good for the household, since the other tramp returns to rob the place.

Leonce Perret's two-reeler about the situation is drawn from a novel, which means it was undoubtedly more complicated and nuanced than what appears on the screen. Nonetheless, Perret makes his points, including the allure of the open road, and the chances that we fools call fate.
