A refreshing unique look into Egyptian Legend Oum Kulthum

Beautiful film and amazing Music, captivating Colors with realistic performances that allow you to feel part of the audience. The story within a story kept my family and I intrigued and rooting for the Director who struggled with being an Iranian Woman telling the story of an Egyptian singer. A must see!

Reflections From A Different Journey.

I was wondering about Looking For Oum Kulthum, which was shown at the Istanbul Film Festival, and I got the chance to watch it. The director, Mrs. Shirin Neshat, attended the stage and made a short speech. A biography told us we would not watch the movie. Obviously my expectations were in this direction. I think Oum Kulthum is one of the most important artists of the twentieth century. It is obvious that there is a great love or love for her in the Arab world. A movie containing valuable messages and looking at Oum Kulthum from a different window.

has been carefully crafted, as if watching a braided essay unfold. I started the film intrigued and confused; I finished intrigued, confused, and enthralled. A cinematic art statement, every scene a visual delight, endowed with a story rarely told. With integrity, and humanity you are captured by the tale of a struggling woman, who has given her all to be sucessful, to achieve and find grandiose accomplishment in her work and art. To be powerful, like Oum Kulthum. Or at least, to understand her. She fails. Pay close attention to this movie, to the dream, to the musical cues that will pave the emotional course through each scene. At the end, you will find the most respectful, and humble homage to the great Oum Kulthum.
