Ok , so I see most of the reviews here are bad , not sure why ...
It ticked all the boxes for me !
It was so refreshing to watch a movie with an all male cast for a change , don't see them that often .
It was very entertaining, and moved along quickly , with a nice touch of humour underlying all the time ! Especially from one character in particular, Josh , he was my favourite !
So , basically it's about four guys heading off to a cabin for a weekend , to do some male bonding and hunting , Steve the main guy , is having a bit of a marriage crisis , and is wanting to take some time out , it goes frome there and takes a few twists and turns along the way .
Stick with it , it's entertaining !

I wasn't expecting this to be great but it's actually a tense thriller/horror and you don't know where it's headed which is part of the appeal. Unlike a lot of indie horror movies, this one has decent actors with a lot of credits. Good performances and a fast pace. A bunch of guys go camping and then... craziness ensues. Enjoy it.
So... Where do I start? It's probably a bad sign that the standout from the film for me was the very question I pose in my title. The bridge in the forest they drive across, it looks an awful lot like one from rural western Pennsylvania that was featured heavily in the decent found footage flick "The Red Woods".
The acting is more wooden than the trees mentioned in the films title. All four leads are misogynistic stereotypes, circa a 1997 sitcom. The type of male characters who drink a bit too much, have a beer belly, and have zero charisma... But they always seem to have an overly attractive wife... You know the trope!
Also, this film overuses the ever awful and cliched "day for night" filter WAY too often. I thought I was watching an MST3K rerun as many times as I looked up from writing this review to see these guys stumbling about in the "darkness" of a blue tint laid over a fully day lit forest.
There's no spoilers... As I didn't even finish the film.

The story teases a cryptoid style horror but that is only in the dialog at the beginning between the main characters. I thought it was going in. It was not. What unfolds is a nicely concealed, layered horror story that brings hints of "madman" and "mutants". Douglas does a good job of regulating how much of the deeper plot elements get revealed. At some level the complexity of the movie elevates the experience of watching the story unfold.
The cast is fully committed to the characters. Unfortunately they are not developed to the level that makes you connect with them. They are thinly veiled stereotypes, overdrawn. None are likeable. Still, "Between The Trees" has some stuff happening that is interesting, and there is some atmosphere that keeps your attention. It does go left midway when some comic relief appears- and falls flat.
Special effects, minus CGI gunfire, stays practical. It is pretty good work and, even though it is limited, is a pleasure to see onscreen. The creature design and concept is a bit lackluster, kind of like a theme park mutant from a haunted attraction. Still the idea of It all is chillingly delightful. Overall, "Between The Trees" has as much working in its favor as it has going against it. It's worth checking out and despite it's flaws it is mildly enjoyable.

One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time. I can't believe I wasted all this time watching this garbage. The acting is so bad. I can't believe that they've spent money making this ridiculous movie. I'm not sure what they were thinking, but they must've been awfully high when they made this script on this movie. These people need to lay off the drugs. I think that they could've use this to scare people. But they ended up, wrecking it with their opinion of what scares people. Go back to the other side of the trees and start again this will never get an award. Start from scratch and try again really crappy movie.
