Immortal Egypt

I really enjoyed this little series, largely due to the enthusiasm shown for the subject matter by the presenter, Joann Fletcher. I have always had a strong interest in Egyptian history, but over the years I have not kept up on the latest developments. From these episodes, I learned many new things about how the civilization had its beginnings, flourished, and ultimately declined. As an example, I didn't know that looting of tombs in the Valley of the Kings was sanctioned by the state, namely the high priest of upper Egypt. The cinematography is well done, giving beautiful views of the scenery, structures and artifacts left from their time.

Joan Fletcher's hosting & narration in these Timeline series are the main reason I watch these. Her spin and impeccable talent in taking the viewer to the era of the Kings and Queens of Egypt are captivating. I love hearing her talk, and also admire her vast knowledge.

The content is decent and you gain a good insight into history and people of Egypt. The presenter, however, is terrible and insincere. She's tries to be overly dramatic and fails miserably.

This is a BBC 4-part documentary mini-series of the ancient history of Egypt. Joann Fletcher is the presenter. This is solid history. It is presented well and in a simple straight-forward way. It is easy to understand. There is good information. I'm not very knowledgeable. I enjoy the surprising takes on King Tut. Fletcher's unkept hair kinda fits her obsessive nature. All of it works very well.

Found this a riveting series. The presenter is engaging and knowledgeable, and along with great camerawork and sound, brings the subject to life. Like most people, I had a vague idea of ancient Egypt, of Pyramids, mummies and Pharaohs, but realized after watching this how rich and nuanced the 3000+ year historical span is, with multiple invasions, reconstructions, and assimilations. Highly recommended.
