One of the best season 1-6, for some reason season 7 is falling flat. Prior years, I was engaged, the story and the telling were riveting. Not sure what has changed, but, change it back.

I love this series and am glad that it has managed to stay on for a while now. However, this is one of those series where the narrator was the icing on the cake. For me, changing the narrator this past season really negatively impacted the show. It's similar to how I would feel if they changed the narrator on the series Snapped from the Oxygen channel. I'm not sure what the reasons are behind it but if it's possible to get the original narrator back I really wish you would.

I was looking for something to watch after Evil Lives Here, and was so happy to find this amazing show! The home movies and interviews with the families really set this show apart! They take you from the victim and the killer's early lives right up to the moment of the 911 call with every important detail and event, without revealing which is the victim and which is the killer, although it's easy to guess at times. Other times, it's absolutely shocking. Every case is unique, and indeed, a monstrous killer is exposed in each carefully crafted episode. The ambience is perfectly set, from the happy baby/child photos/videos, through the troubled times that build up to the violence, to the cruel act itself. The background music is a heart-breakingly beautiful melody, alternating with ominous sounds and music to make our hearts race. The aftermath reveals the victim's families' and friends' thoughts and feelings, as well as the fate of the murderer. In this series, every case is solved to satisfaction, with no loose ends. Between the velvety narration, families' assistance and law enforcement, by the end of the episode, we come to know everyone involved in the case, almost as if we'd met them personally. This show gave me goosebumps. I was left wishing for more episodes of this addictive show when the series ended. In my humble opinion, this is the cream of the crop of the true crime genre!

This show is amazing. I watched the first episode and I was hooked. And every episode just gets better. Everything was perfectly done, from the production, to the audio, to the story lines of each episode as it keeps you glued to the TV often not having any idea what the outcome is going to be (it has plenty of twists and turns in each episode) This show takes you deep into the life, and I mean deep of the 'monster" and their family via home videos that are downright chilling at times. When you finish an episode it's almost as if you know these people. If you want to get a scare or a chill down your spine, don't watch a fictional horror movie, watch this show, it's the real deal. When they tell you it's the most terrifying criminals that often hide in plain site, they're not lying, at all. Highly recommend this show, as well as See No Evil. But warning - this thing may give you nightmares because I think it captures evil better than almost anything I've ever seen, and it's real.

This is definitely one of my favourite series on the ID channel. The home videos is what really drives it home for me. I haven't seen any new episodes in a long time though or any promotions for a new season so I'm getting a little nervous it might not stick around. If you love true crime then you'll like this series.

A really good show that takes storytelling seriously. I enjoy the angle that it goes into, leaving you guessing who the monster may turn out to be. It usually surprises me who ends up dead and who is the killer. Finally!! A show I can't see coming until the end!

American Monster is a crime drama with the unique way of telling the story. They start out with family videos, and other dramatizations, and at first, the viewer is trying to figure out which family member turns into the "monster" and who is going to be the victim. The story is told well, and even the family and friends that talk about their loved ones or the "monster" talk about persons in the past tense, so you just aren't quite sure who it is, until they are ready to let you in on their secret. I really enjoyed watching this show. It has an interesting story telling ability, and the signs aren't always obvious, and then you wonder how someone didn't know, or maybe they did. Fathers, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, grandparents, cousins, victims or perpetrator. I watched all of the shows within the series, and am looking forward to a new season.

This is such a great show. Every time I tune in there are stories that hasn't been covered on Dateline or 48 hours. I love tuning in.
There are always stories that I've kind of heard about or was touched upon in the news. But it's really nice to see and share the stories so that people can be more aware of their surroundings and the people around them. I know True Crime gives a daunting outlook on life. But if anything it keeps us more self-aware.
And I hope that this show continues on for many more seasons. It's always great to watch this on my local TV station and it is truly the best True Crime series that is ongoing please continue to make episodes.

Sorry, but I do not enjoy the new narrator. Not edgy at all. This new guy makes it sound like a detergent commercial or something.
Could they not have cast a wider net?

Overall: I understand the tactic of profiling the family and illustrating what a good father he is, but fully 2/3 of the episodes seem to be about family activities. Who really cares that they had a backyard barbecue, or went on a picnic? They could make these into 30-minute episodes and still cover all the relevant content.

Not that American Monster it's the best true crime shows out there but the selection of the crimes, and the way they are told, make one of the most expected new series each time they are released. And to be honest each series it's better than the one before.

I love the home videos and build up. Early in the episodes, I try to guess who the killer is. I love the background story, because I love getting a glimpse of the victim's childhood (sometimes even the killer's). I love this style versus the cheesy dramatizations in some of the other true crime shows. If the back story of the victim doesn't appeal to you, then this isn't the show for you.

This show spends most of the time telling you about people's lives, from as early in their lives as possible. I don't care about the unrelated sweet sixteen party that happened 20 years before the crime.

It's really hard to be sympathetic when some of these people ignore every red flag and sign that these people are just garbage humans. I'm not sure what the point of the show is. Is it to raise awareness for domestic violence? Sure yeah don't do ANY of the things the people in these episodes do. Is it to celebrate the lives of the victims? I don't know, they spent the majority of the hour building up a story that makes the victim look naive as hell. So I'm not sure what the point is other than to just be upset when the story is over.
Anyway, the show is good. It's usually done well with a decent amount of build up, it's just frustrating because I rarely feel sorry for these people after it's over. I usually feel bad for the children that these people bring into these deplorable situations.

I love the earlier episodes where the narrator had more prominence. It's interesting how this show has evolved over the years. The more recent episodes are still well done but I miss the heavy narration of the first six or seven seasons.
ABOUT MY REVIEWS:
I do not include a synopsis of the film/show -- you can get that anywhere and that does not constitute a meaningful review -- but rather my thoughts and feelings on the film that hopefully will be informative to you in deciding whether to invest 90-180 minutes of your life on it.
My scale: 1-5 decreasing degrees of "terrible", with 5 being "mediocre" 6- OK. Generally held my interest OR had reasonable cast and/or cinematography, might watch it again 7 - Good. My default rating for a movie I liked enough to watch again, but didn't rise to the upper echelons 8- Very good. Would watch again and recommend to others 9- Outstanding. Would watch over and over; top 10% of my ratings 10 - A classic. (Less than 2% receive this rating). For Lifetime Movies for Chicks (LMFC), drop the above scale by 3 notches. A 6 is excellent and 7 almost unattainable.

I have watched a few episodes and it just drags on and on. Get to the point! I just watched one episode and it was 28 minutes in, before they even talked about a crime being committed. The first half was just introducing the members of the family. Lots of fast forwarding on this one.

I guess they ran out of stories about victims you'd feel sorry for. All the shows now feature people who lived dangerous lives and their premature ending is no surprise.
A lot of these people must be colorblind not to see the obvious red flags.
