Someone recommended this show to my girlfriend and she is committed to watching all of it, to give an honest critique back to her friend. And thus, so am I.

3 episodes in, and here is my take.

If you're in your teens/20s and enjoy watching wealthy family melodramas like Dynasty or teen shows like Riverdale and such, this is for you! That's not to say an older crowd can't enjoy it, but let's be real, most shows like this are all young fangirl viewers! Great storyline and easy to watch!

I am a huge supporter of Australian arts but watching this was just painful. It was like watching act by numbers. Very mono tone and felt like they were just doing a read through. As I said I would love to be able to support the Australian Arts but this is just embarrassing.

How anyone could gives this a rating above 1 is amazing to me. Don't trust me, watch the first 5 minutes and you'll see how bad it is.

The worst acting I have seen on Australian TV since E Street. I'm sure the "actors" are either being fed lines or reading off a telepromoter, it's the only way I can explain the delays in responses. Just awful ... can't wait for season 2!!!!!!

Just wanted to say I love the series soundtrack and music! So awesome they supported emerging musicians and artists with the opp. Congrats to the cast and crew on all its success

Quite simply the worst show I have ever seen and I've watched thousands of shows and movies over my lifetime. The acting and writing is terrible. It looks like a high school production that was filmed on someone's iPhone.

That said....it's worth a watch because of how unintentionally funny it is. I've gotten my friends to watch an episode or two and we've all had a good laugh at how bad it is. I would recommend watching at least half an episode but only because of how bad it is.

And no....I don't know the cast. I have never worked with any of them. I just happened to come across an episode at about 2am on a Saturday during the Xmas break.

And for those giving it a 10/10...be realistic. We can all see that you are fake profiles who have joined just to bring up the IMDB rating. Realistically this should sit at about a 1.5 stars.

If you're sick of neighbours and home and away like me with there 'outback', regurgitated characters returning from death and bogans, then watch this!! Finally something better! If I had to choose, I would pick Counter Play over them. Like tbh this isn't any worse, at least its not cringe worthy to watch. Thank you for giving us something better to watch

Truly appalling acting and script. How did this manage to make it onto TV?

Amazon recommended this, so i watched it. i was actually pleasantly surprised. it's no cinematic masterpiece nor is it obviously trying to be but i enjoyed it far more than i thought i would. Worth a watch

This show tries too hard to be Gossip Girl x Pretty Little Liars x Days of Our Lives. Despite claims of attending acting schools, the amateur performance of the "actors" is laughable; the interactions between characters is artificial and bland. The screen writing, and script lacks substance and direction. The filmography and editing is detestable. The sound quality is metallic and fuzzy. Cringe worthy is an understatement. Eye gougingly horrific.

This show is good !! Very good ! It has changed my life and I will never go back !!1!!one! The day that this show is cancelled is the day that I commit suicide !!

I just stumbled across this in syndication/repeats on late Saturday night TV here in Australia.

The fact it has earned a second run is a pretty good clue as to why free-to-air TV in this country is at death's door. It's awful. The test pattern would be more animated. The acting would be better if it were potato puppets. And yet this gets shown IN REPEATS.

Don't even think about it. It is that bad.

Flicking through the channels with friends to find something to watch and then we struck gold! The acting and cinematography is so horrendously bad you could make a drinking game out of this show.

As I watched this show, I thought that it must have been a parody and that any minute the laugh would happen. But no, it's a serious TV drama. Some of the most unbelievable dialogue and acting, a strange absence of contractions....sorry, it's just really dreadful. I agree with the person below, it could become an amazing drinking game. The acting is really....strange...that's the only way I can describe it. I'm at a loss as to how this show made it onto our televisions. Please, could someone wake me up and tell me that it was all just a bad dream. Really, it's just the most dreadful program. I'm not one to leave reviews online but in this case I felt compelled to add my voice for what it's worth. In summary - SO BAD it's funny.

I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, the pilot really drew me in! It goes deeper than the initial story set up and has the potential for some great story lines for every single characte! It reminds me of an Australian British-esque downtown abbey with all the family secrets and love triangles.

Oh dear, where do I start? This series deserves -10/10. Never in my life have I seen such terrible acting or scripting - and I taught a highschool media class so that's saying something! Bad lighting, shocking acting (I mean just awful), staged/forced dialogue, amateur camera work, fuzzy audio and PowerPoint style editing, cliched annoying background music, and to top it off - simply laughable content. Just abysmal on every level. Seriously bash-my-head-against-the-wall top notch rubbish. I thought this was a joke. What on earth has the Australian film industry come to? Smh. A new low.

Started streaming online and to be honest a bit confused as to how people are comparing it to gossip girl on here... it's nothing like it! Is it in NY? No. Is there a chuck bass? No. Is it about over privileged teens? No. So what is Counter Play about? It's about from what I gather, fictional Australian dynasties and their towns 'dirty laundry'. Decent cinematography and beautiful locations, a well formed concept and script (even if certain actors delivery at times is sub-par) and all in all, an easy show for any age to watch

Some actors are clearly struggling deliverying their lines convincingly . Mostly a young relatively inexperienced cast - perhaps it will get better with time and improved dialogue . Pretty dismal Australian production . We can & do better than this.

I'm not going to lie, I had some hesitations going into this, given the massive amount of dull and terrible series out there on streaming platforms like Amazon and Netflix. But I think I kind of like this one! It's not boring and has an easy to follow storyline and likable characters (some less likable) but stand outs for me were Heather Cornwall, Faith Morgan and Wes who were believable actors and delivered well-rounded characters and emotions. There's nothing this tv show does that's extraordinary but its an enjoyable series that does involve you in the mystery and questions. I'd watch a second season if there is one

Unbiased review - must see for a lesson in terrible acting. Just go to bed, not worth the watch at 12:30 am.

When first hearing about this series in the media, I heard only good things and being a former fan of Gossip Girl and Revenge, I thought this will be right up my alley. I can see how some people may misinterupt and think it's some sort of a 'gossip girl remake' or some tacky rip-off, however it's pleasantly, completely the opposite!! This made me like the show more knowing it wasn't a replica and I could watch it with fresh eyes and enjoy the scandalous wealthy town and it's characters and different storyline to what i expected! I really liked it and hope it does really well! I am happy to say it's NOT another gossip girl, but one that fans of that genre can enjoy! :)))

I love cheesy shows but this was waaaay beyond that. The acting is absolutely terrible, reminded me of a high school drama project except worse because they talk so slow, like they're reading from a script. There's even a few bloopers they've just left in instead of reshooting. 2 stars because the editing is pretty good.

When will this be available to watch again?! My sisters and I loved it the first time around and haven't been able to find it on a streaming platform or tv channel. Such a fun storyline we all could watch together. BRING IT BACK!! Pleaseeeee.

I came across this on late night replay...yes on replay...why oh why?. Thank you for the CoVid-19 insomnia cure. The acting is terrible. Stunted, metalic robotic speeches and hey wait while i pause so you can say your terrible line while someone moves the one shaky camera we have. Why are people speaking in badly accented fake posh voices? I would turn it into a drinking game during this CoVid-19 iso but I don't think I could watch another episode.
