When I sat down to watch the 2017 Japanese romantic comedy "P to JK" (aka "Policeman and Me"), I must admit that I was expecting it to be a bit more different than what it turned out to be.
First of all, the fact that a 25 year old police officer would even consider marrying a 16 year old girl just never sat well with me. It was so wrong on many, many levels, and it just totally ruined the movie. I was expecting to see a romantic comedy, not a perverted police officer lusting for a younger girl. So what writer Nami Yoshikawa and Manga writer Maki Miyoshi were thinking with this plot is just beyond me, but it was seedy and somewhat disturbing.
And for a movie that ran for a bit more than two hours, surprisingly little of any worth happened throughout that time. Which made the movie feel very prolonged and boring. Sure, the movie started out well enough and ended sort of okay, but the middle parts were just cluttered and sort of going everywhere at once.
They had some adequately casted actors and actresses for the movie. I am not familiar with actress Tao Tsuchiya (playing Kako), but she does have charisma, despite having a very shallow character to portray in the movie.
If you enjoy romantic comedies, then "Policeman and Me" is not a great choice of a movie. I did manage to sit through the entire ordeal, but I weren't particularly impressed or entertained.
As for the ending of the movie, well, while it was essentially a nice enough way to end a sordid story such as this, then the kiss shared between Kako and Kota (played by Kazuya Kamenashi) was without a doubt one of the most forced and awkward movie kisses ever to grace the screen.
Ultimately then "Policeman and Me" was definitely a swing and a miss from director Ryuichi Hiroki in terms of delivering something that entertained me. And as such, then I am rating this 2017 movie a mere three out of ten stars.

It's a nice, well made movie but unfortunately the story is just a bit bland and lukewarm. Not much is happening, especially for 2 hour film. It also didn't manage to make me really care about the protagonists all that much. Especially the main girl is just boring and one dimensional. It's not bad though, just mediocre.
