Really different cop movie. Everyone acted well. Music was good. Movie was soo thrilling and action. Songs were all amazing. Movie could have more action scenes.
The movie is a blatant copy of the superhit movie Saamy which came 13 years before this. The story structure is so similar even the end except for few differences.
But the writing is absolute garbage. In one of the scenes the hero, a cop will ask his subordinate if he pulled the trigger unknowingly to load the gun. Won't a cop even know this? So poor writing. In another scene the hero's son who will be around 5 years holds a gun and shoots.
Boring movie overall.

Recently I reduced watching Indian films, but still hanging around Tamil films. Now and then checking out some parallel films, particularly the Vijay Sethupathi films. Police is a character that donned by all the top stars in Kollywood and saw tremendous success. So when I heard Vijay Sethupathi doing one, I don't want to miss it. Well, it was not a great film, not for the standards of Vijay Sethupathi I've been looking for. Because of little commercialised with traditional Tamil cop film style, including punch dialogues and the way of confronting the bad guy. Yet quite enjoyable.
Sethupathi is an honest cop. Married with two kids. The criminals are scared of him and so people in the department under him. Well, one day he tied up to investigate the death of a police officer. But it begins to take a twist every time he nears to resolve it. Soon a direct confrontation happened between him and the bad guy. And after a series of challenges exchanged between them, finally who would triumph and how it all happen are told in the final quarter.
This is the second collaboration between the director and the actor. Not the seen the first film, now I'll give it a try. It also a second collaboration between two lead pair after 'Pizza'. Nice performances by all, including the little ones. The domestic audience might like it better than the outsiders. Because it had all the ingredients they would look for. Even though I thought the villain was the most clichéd thing ever. Not just in this film, but any Tamil commercial films. For the international merit, it should have been a little better, especially leaving out the music videos would have done a better job. Then the film would have been pushed back to around hundred minutes. But I think it is still worth a watch.

The film starts out with an opening song 'Mazhai Thooralam' describing the life of an Indian cop. By the time this song ends, you know you're moved already.
Vijay's body language is perfectly suitable to the 'cop' role. And that moustache - mass! I'm sure that this film is the best of his till date. Heroine and other actors were given decent roles. Although a routine cop story, direction was pretty good.
The BGM music composed by Prasanna was mind-blowing. Every song had different combinations of rock and pop. The film is a perfect family and action packed entertainment.
Trust me you won't regret watching 'Sethupathi'

"**Sethupathi**: A Riveting Cop Drama with a Charismatic Lead"
**Sethupathi**, directed by S. U. Arun Kumar, stands out as a gripping addition to the Tamil action film genre. Released in 2016, the film stars Vijay Sethupathi in the titular role, delivering a performance that is both compelling and dynamic, setting the stage for an engaging police procedural intertwined with intense action sequences and a robust narrative.
The plot revolves around the upright and fearless police officer, Inspector Sethupathi, who is drawn into a web of intrigue following the mysterious death of a fellow officer. As Sethupathi digs deeper into the case, he discovers layers of corruption and deceit, leading to a confrontation with a powerful and influential antagonist. The investigation takes a dramatic turn when a suspect in Sethupathi's custody is shot, casting a shadow of doubt over his integrity and putting his career at risk.
One of the film's strongest points is its lead actor. Vijay Sethupathi's portrayal of the tough yet principled cop is captivating. His screen presence is formidable, and he brings a nuanced depth to the character of Sethupathi, balancing the character's intense dedication to justice with moments of vulnerability and personal struggle. The actor's effortless charm and commanding performance make it easy for the audience to root for him, even when the odds are heavily stacked against him.
The screenplay by S. U. Arun Kumar is tightly woven, maintaining a brisk pace throughout the film. The narrative keeps the audience engaged with a series of twists and turns that are both surprising and logical. The tension is palpable as Sethupathi navigates the murky waters of police corruption and political influence. The stakes are high, and the screenplay ensures that the viewer remains invested in the outcome of the story.
The action sequences in **Sethupathi** are well-executed, with a realistic and gritty approach that enhances the film's overall tone. The fight scenes are choreographed with precision, showcasing Sethupathi's physical prowess and strategic thinking. Unlike the over-the-top action often seen in similar genres, **Sethupathi** opts for a more grounded approach, which adds to the film's authenticity and impact.
Supporting performances in the film are commendable, with Remya Nambeesan playing the role of Sethupathi's supportive yet strong-willed wife. Their on-screen chemistry provides a balanced counterpoint to the film's intense action, adding a layer of emotional depth to the story. The antagonist, portrayed by Vela Ramamoorthy, is suitably menacing, providing a formidable challenge for the protagonist and enhancing the film's dramatic tension.
The film's technical aspects are also noteworthy. Dinesh Krishnan's cinematography captures the essence of the urban landscape, reflecting the gritty reality of a cop's life. The music by Nivas K. Prasanna complements the film's mood, with a score that underscores the tension and drama effectively.
One of the film's underlying themes is the examination of the moral ambiguities faced by law enforcement officers. Sethupathi's character is not just battling external threats but also grappling with internal dilemmas about right and wrong, justice and duty. This adds a layer of complexity to the narrative, making it more than just a standard action flick.
In conclusion, **Sethupathi** is a well-crafted action film that stands out due to its strong performances, particularly by Vijay Sethupathi, and its engaging storyline. The film successfully combines elements of action, drama, and thriller, creating a compelling narrative that keeps the audience hooked from start to finish. Director S. U. Arun Kumar has delivered a film that is both entertaining and thought-provoking, making **Sethupathi** a must-watch for fans of the genre and anyone looking for a solid, engaging film experience.
