Its growing on me

As someone who loved True Blood and enjoys supernatural story lines, I was very excited for Midnight Texas to premiere. The first couple episodes were a little try-hard, but I stuck with it because I love the actors. By episode 4, I was officially hooked. It's not a heart pounding drama or thriller, but it's entertaining and the actors are starting to connect and get into their parts. I personally would love to see a second season, especially since first seasons for shows aren't always "mind- blowing"....but Midnight definitely has the potential to be the next True Blood or Supernatural.

Hoping for Season 2

Over my years or television watching I have followed many summer shows. Though these shows have varied widely from comedies to dramas to reality shows there is one thing that every single one of them has had in common. None of them has ever lasted past a single season.

I am hoping that Midnight, Texas will end up being the show that will break that unfortunate trend. This is a good, solid show that is highly entertaining with great characters and a fun premise. I will keep logging on to the old information super-highway in the hope of seeing the glorious headline "Midnight, Texas renewed for Season 2." Fingers crossed!

Just happy there's a new show with fun characters

Reminds me a bit of Tim Burton's earlier work - a bit of Big Fish, Beetlejuice - some tricky figures and supernatural goings-on. I haven't read the books; perhaps the TV show can be best enjoyed by its own merits without the literary baggage. After just one episode, I'm excited to see more, and moreover, the actors all seem to have charisma and be provided with rich back stories. It's a little cheesy, but I'm all for some lightness mixed in with my vampires, angels, werewolves, witches, and psychic cuties.

Worth the time

Midnight is one of those shows that start slow with teasers. It's a nod and wink to the supernatural while also inter-splicing realistic possibilities. It's like a joke. A vampire, a witch, an angel, a wear beast and a hired killer walk into a diner. Except it doesn't have a punch line. Instead. It draws you in. Slowing unraveling each characters background until, you are invested In the towns scrappy bunch of characters. It's definitely worth the time. I intend to binge on all the episodes, thus far, this weekend. The marriage of the occult and Normalicy is intriguing and I'm interested to see where it goes.

I am curious about the other review

Given that the show debuted on July 24, 2017, I am skeptical of the review, dated: 26 February 2017 | by Kai Breen.

Just saying...

Otherwise, the show seems to be setting itself up fine. Characters are interesting if not inaccurate to the novel.

Supernatural misfits helping each other....

I like this show - it is a hybrid of Haven and Being Human (the British version). It is about a group of supernatural misfits with different abilities and personalities that find a unique town. The town is geographically situated in such a way that the veil between the living and the dead is very thin. The characters have heart and they are interesting, often struggling with emotions and situations that humans often find themselves in. It moves a bit slowly, but is worth watching.

Entertaining with heart

If you liked the first season of LOST GIRL, if you were a PUSHING DAISIES fan, or you a Browncoat who likes Urban Fantasy as well-- this show is for you. At it's core is a family of real characters, who after only 3 episodes, you feel like you've known them for months. It is a bit cheeky and the town feels lived-in. When these guys joke with each other and talk you feel like they all have truly known each other for years, possibly decades. It has vampires, hit-women, mediums, ghosts, a regular average-Jane waitress, a talking cat (with a thick accent!), a Wiccan with some serious powers, and more. I would recommend tuning in. It is a good show, and despite the subject matter, it really is fun.

slowly fades away

Manfred Bernardo calls up spirits and earns a living as a psychic on the run from unknown forces. He follows his dead gypsy grandmother's spirit to the small town of Midnight, Texas. It sits on powerful mystical energy and is a secret gathering place for a variety of supernatural beings. Fiji Cavanaugh is a witch. Olivia is an assassin. Lemuel Bridger is a vampire altered by a gypsy. Bobo Winthrop is the helpful pawn shop owner. Joe Strong is a fallen angel. Creek is a waitress. Rev. Emilio Sheehan is hiding something in the basement. Local girl Aubrey Hamilton is found murdered but that's only the start.

Based on a series of books by Charlaine Harris who also the books adapted into True Blood, this doesn't have the same appeal as True Blood. Unlike Anna Paquin, this is not led by a transcendent star. It doesn't have the sex of HBO or the juicy love triangle to hook the audience. Also there is meandering flow to the plot with random rules of the road. It's interesting at first to discover all the individual identities. It's not until the second season when there is a compelling central villain. The first season needs one big antagonist to pull the show and the group together. In general, the show is too scatter-shoot, the characters lack juice, and the show slowly fades away after two short seasons.

Love it !!!!!!!!!

I have read the books loved them, and I think they did a wonderful job on the show. I can't wait for more. There were a few minor changes to some of the charters but all in all I think they did a great job. It will be interesting on were the go from here since it will pretty much being an open playing field for the writers. There is so many ways to continue this series it will be a great ride.

It's a fun show, but why it's giving me a headache ?

Well, there is no such thing called character development on this show. You know what it feels like when you watch it ? A bunch of young people are plucked from first year of theater school and told, 'here's a southern town set, you're a medium, you're a vampire, you're an assassin..you're a cute girl..you're a hot guy..aaand..action !'

Nothing has been explored well so far. Intentions, backstories, relationships. The acting is so bad, you will end up wondering..why are they a couple again ?.. or, why is she fighting him ? Stuff like that.

I'm watching it because it's fun seeing a bunch of Supernatural beings and tolerant humans form a merry band and coexist (?!). Season 1 was a mess. I thought it would improve in season 2. It did not.

So, if you are looking for something with story and heart, move along. If you have lots of time on your hands and want to fill your supernatural quota of the day with PG13 innuendo, by all means. That's what I'm doing.

Get over yourselves!

For those who just want to whinge about how this series isn't like the book, get over yourselves. So, you read some popular fiction books and expected a facsimile in the TV show; that hardly makes you a literary or film critic. How little you understand theatrical interpretation! Even Shakespeare undergoes radical changes in setting, characterisation and plot, when it is performed and filmed; this author is hardly as elevated as Shakespeare, so stop being so precious and attempting to be pretentious.

It's a good pilot. The characters are engaging and intriguing; you want to know more. The setting is well chosen and the atmosphere is building. I hated True Blood for the first half of the first series but, by series 2, I loved it. You cannot judge anything on the basis of a pilot and you cannot watch a series expecting it to be exactly like the book.

As for the reference to Supernatural... I loved that show for 3 series and then it lost me. There's only so much of the same formula a brain can take. I'm hoping that this series will be less formulaic.

I enjoyed this pilot. I seldom write reviews but I had to respond to the typical 'this character should be more like this...' whining. The whole point of transferring a book to screen is that everything about it evolves in the transition; you take the essence of the book but not micro-detail because there would be no creativity involved, otherwise.

Totally awesome!!

I was able to watch the full episode at WonderCon 2017 and its totally cool!!If you like the books I think you will enjoy it. There's enough I think that would appeal to many audiences. Per the Q&A panel they are keeping it totally as it should which can be interpreted in many ways. Hope it gets a renewal.

Enjoyable tv supernatural ensemble

I sometimes cringe when new vampire/zombie/witch/demon/werewolf ensembles somehow have enough pull with the public to launch yet another show on the subject. This one is pretty good. It's saving graces are the very enigmatic cast, and the fact that more than usual effort has been put into effects. The idea for the show is good, a town full of spooky people. The stories are pretty good too. Alas, it is tv though, and not quite the movie quality that a show like Discovery of Witches managed to achieve. A lot of the sets are repetitive, and the main drag is used way too often. It's all a little too tidy and pristine for a town where the streets don't seem to be paved. That was annoying, to me, but not so much that I didn't finish watching the entire first season within a week. I'd say this is a good one for late teens and early 20s, and maybe sci-fi nuts like me of any age.

Nice Start

The important thing is we all want to see what happens next. The show is off to a great start with enough elements involved to be a real cliff hanger. The fun is in the abilities yet undiscovered by the other inhabitants of this town. As well as their love interests and pursuits. Overall, a nice start to what looks to be one hell of a show.

Love it!

Cannot wait for next, and the next! Just what the doctor ordered. Pure escapism and fun, fun, fun!

Love the characters and the set, so full of mystery and just the right lighting. New stuff happening all the time. Can the writers keep that up?

Does not take its self too seriously, and nor should anyone else.

People who pick apart everything, instead of soaking up such a gem are just irritating.

All I ask is when it comes to the end, please, please make it better than True Blood, which was dire, and an insult to all who stuck with it so long.

Season 1 was fun, Season 2 they got woke and then went broke...

...As it was cancelled so no more money :P

I immediately felt the decline right off the bat with season 2. First something seemed off with Manfred and I realized they changed him from a kinda likable scoundrel looking guy to a male model with a silly haircut I wouldn't get caught dead with. It's like they changed what made him cool and changed him for mass NPC appeal or something. It was a terrible decision. Then Season 2 EP 2 title was "The Monster of the Week Is Patriarchy" and I thought, OK here we go again.. and it just goes down hill from there with its social justice messages and allot of pointless sex scenes, in other words the show was taken over by NPC's and written for NPC's.

Enjoy Season 1. Id give it a 7, it was fun. Then move on to a different show because they destroy everything they created in season 2.
