Though I'd never watched the original series, I enjoyed the movie that came out last year enough to want to check out the new Netflix original series. Unfortunately, this was one of the most boring half hour shows I've watched in a long time. It's a never a good sign when you start looking at your watch only ten minutes in. The only positive thing I can say about it is the animation has a cute, old school charm that recalls the nostalgic spirit of the cartoons I grew up with, but nothing else works. The jokes are flat and unfunny. The characters are totally forgettable. In the pilot episode, Mr. Peabody and Sherman are trying to put on their first show but keep getting distracted by nosy, annoying neighbors, all while traveling through time in the WEYBAC to meet historical figures like Napoleon Bonaparte. If any of this was funny, it wouldn't matter that the story line is over the place. I've only watched the first of thirteen episodes but will not be watching the rest and have removed the series from my Netflix watch list.
The 2014 film "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" is without a doubt, one of the best DreamWorks films of all time along with Captain Underpants, Trolls, and the How To Train Your Dragon franchise. Not only that, but also one of my favorite animated movies of all time. The Netflix series, "The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show" is...let me cut to the chase real quick. The style of this show is so freaking great to look at, it really reminds me of the similar art style of classic Cartoon Network shows like Samurai Jack. The humor is beyond wacky and fun and the animation is really good, yet some of the humor and writting is a bit too much and a bit obnoxious. Some of the writing of the show is also unique and the characters like Mr. Peabody and Sherman are really good, sometimes they act sort of unusual. It's a shame that Penny Peterson (from the movie) didn't make an appearance in the show, but I digress. (Seriously, Penny Peterson is obviously one of my favorite characters. She's cute, she's voiced by Ariel Winter who played Alex Dunphy from Modern Family and she reminds me of Cindy Vortex from Jimmy Neutron.) This Netflix cartoon sort of work for, thought the some of the jokes felt a bit dull and the way the characters act sometimes. It's not my favorite but I'm giving this a 6.5/10
Blah blah blah she show is weird and ruined the Peabody franchise or whatever, ya'll genuinely won't even mention the effort and love put into this show because you're too busy complaining about the jokes or sumthin. HELLO?? ART DIRECTION GOES CRAZY?? AND THE MUSIC GUEST'S SONGS??? This show is for kids and it's going to have some dumb stuff every now and then, and may not even be educational whatsoever. BUT, listen to me, give the writers/animators some credit for putting so much hard work into this show, like it might not be comparable to some other great shows out there but it's the pure raw passion they had that made the show what it is now. It might not be jaw dropping or mind blowing to anyone who watches it, just spare some of your time, you might enjoy it and you might not.
A few years earlier, the film Mr. Peabody and Sherman was released in theaters. Like all films based on segments of the 1960s Rocky and Bullwinkle show, the film flopped at the box office, even though its revenue was greater than its budget. Nevertheless, the film's positive reception was enough to inspire the creation of this TV show.
Unlike the film which uses 3D cgi, the TV show uses 2G cgi. But that's okay. Sherman here sounds younger than his 1960s counterpart but it still fits the character. There's also a bit of quirkiness on how some of the characters act but that's common to animated shows with classic cartoonish nature. When animated cartoons first hit the screen decades ago, they were originally adaptations of comic characters.

Streamed a second time while recovering from surgery and enjoyed it quite a bit more than first viewing. Other reviewers disliked the "variety" show theme, but once you understand the concept it is not hard to follow. The side characters: Christine, the neigbors, the pet mammoth all become more charming...and Mr. Peabody's parents are hilarious!!! The animation is crazy good and the color pallettes are to die for. Love how all the strokes are not black, but a deep navy-purple which really helps the colors pop. Would love to take a color theory class from the artists. In the meantime, I've screen-grabbed many of my favorite color combinations. Give the show a second chance....I think you will give it a higher rating.
