The Yorkshire Vet

I absolutely love this show. My late husband was a vet and practiced here in British Columbia, so the show brings back happy memories. Julian and Peter are Superb vets and they have an amazing support team. Congrats on a great show. I came to Canada in 1966 from the UK so the show is also a nostalgia trip.

While I do enjoy this show a lot, the vets both seem really nice and very caring, what I don't understand is why neither of them feel the need to wear surgical masks while operating? they are working over a sterile field that should be protected at all costs and when you have someone breathing that close to an open wound it doesn't bear thinking about what germs are being transferred, I wouldn't want them operating on any of my animals.

Both of the vet shows i used to watch all moved to streaming services that you have to pay for. So i was searching and decided to give the yorkshire vet a chance and i am so very happy that i did. The scenery is awesome and the vets really care for their animals and the owners. They are nothing like the one in michigan and i am so glad they are not. Really refreshing to watch a show such as this one. Peter and julian are really concerned about their animals that they care for. I really enjoy seeing the Greens and how nice everything is in Yorkshire. Makes me want to visit. It is truly a breath of fresh air on.

My Mum and I found this show on our recent visit to the UK. I grew up with All Creatures Great and Small - both the books and the TV series on our public television station. As a teenager I was in Yorkshire and able to meet the real Siegfried (James 'Herriot' White was out of town) and then later as an adult I visited the veterinary museum at the original Skeldale House.

This reality TV show is fantastic! I hope that it is picked up in the US by Animal Planet or our PBS station. I love that Christopher Timothy is the narrator. For now I can enjoy it by streaming online.

If all reality TV was like this I wouldn't be so allergic to it. Rather than looking for (even stoking) conflict, it celebrates warm and engaging people, both the vets and their clients. Instead of scripting scenes to try (and normally fail) to make them more dramatic/funny/interesting, it lets these warm and engaging people live their real life dramas, and in the process lets you see how genuinely funny and interesting people can be when just benig themselves. And then of course there is the glorious scenery, and the animals which are the supposed reason for the programme. I say supposed because it is really about the people first and foremost; in the Greens, a supremely cuddlable old couple, the show really has struck gold. The vets tend to deal with clients more like friends, and I never got the impression as in some vet shows that they are preening for the camera. My only worry is that the takeover of the Skeldale practice by conglomerate Medivet, saying they will no longer treat large animals, might kill off the show.
