After watching the pilot for "Hunters", I was disappointed. Although it is not unusual for a show to start quickly, hoping to catch the interest of viewers from the start, that strategy is difficult to pull off, requiring clarity. The audience must know what is happening, even if it doesn't yet understand all the intentions of the characters. And viewers should be given a character (or two) they can identify with.
"Hunters" is a failure of style and story. The action is dark, full of shadows that obscure identities. This method can create mystery, but the viewer should at least know what the mystery is. When he is given little or no context, the first episode is only a collection of actions to be remembered, in hopes of later understanding.
The story seems implausible. There is a troubled FBI agent, Flynn (Nathan Phillips), who lives with a wife we barely see and a former partner's daughter who is also troubled. There is a shadow organization that tracks down undefined entities that belong to another shadow organization with unknown goals. For some reason, all of these entities converge, Flynn is told he now works for the first organization, and people start chasing each other.
Flynn receives no indoctrination or training. He is never read in regarding his new employer's objectives or its history. And neither are we.
Usually, good scripts don't have the characters explain everything that happens; they just show us. But some exposition through dialogue is necessary if a backstory is not provided through flashbacks.
Perhaps later episodes can clean up the mess that the pilot lays at viewers' feet. And maybe other viewers are willing to wait for the framework that is missing. Personally, I am not motivated to wait, particularly because none of the characters intrigue me.

I give it a 5 because it has potential BUT this is what's wrong with SciFi today. Maybe it's just the perception that some of the British or Australian directors, writers etc that audiences are stupid/ignorant of the real world or maybe they are themselves.
Here's what I mean, no one in this day and age over the age of 10 thinks a CRACK secret organization sends 3 guys into a bldg to search for dangerous aliens/monsters or bad guys.
OR if you do the guys are THE bad asses of the world. Not 3 guys who wander in , lose track of each other , disobey orders or carry radios that don't have earpieces and throat mikes so the baddies don't hear you or basically run around like idiots and get themselves killed.
Now I know some may say well that was just a device so we can set up that he loves her or she lost a loved one or whatever BUT! if you don't get the little things right then no matter how good you do the biggies you only be mediocre, hire a military consultant for Pete's sake.
And I will give this a few more looks but as of now that's what it is mediocre MTV scifi show.
Wow that was long winded for me but I had high hopes for this one and they just aren't up to snuff the acting's not that good and the script is not THAT well done, they throw in a little gore for shock value and it's done poorly and not really needed if the show was done well. Well nuff said , hope they correct this one but it feels kinda like an overseas copy of a really good American show. Sorry guys but you know USA makes the most entertaining movies and shows... we just make them in Canada now LOL

In order to mix mystery and action, the show chooses a more militaristic approach to the usual premise. It doesn't provide much in terms of characters, although there might be slight potential here. For action itself, the camera is unsteady and the dark tone of cinematography doesn't help much. There's not much here that bring hook and creativity beyond the casual draw.
Flynn (Nathan Phillips) is an agent with difficult situation, wife missing and awkward step-daughter. The strange relationship with his wife's daughter can be appealing in mildly dysfunctional kind of way, but the acting doesn't create any spark. Flynn himself is the typical agent, while this secret organization lacks any appealing identity.
The pilot misses its chance for impressive introduction, something similar to MiB first initiation that really sets the tone. While it may be done to keep the mysticism, a series with organization at the core needs to establish itself well, yet Flynn is merely unceremoniously thrown in. The antagonist creature has a good design to it, the make-up does present something humanoid.
Graphic is occasionally too dark, which can be distracting. It tries to bring more authentic military look and the shaky visual might diminish the effort. The narrative doesn't pique much interest either, it might utilize the thriller aspect, yet even this is rather questionable as none of the characters can effectively draw audience to emotionally invest in the series.
"Hunters" manages to cover the basic sci-fi, but there's little drive to push the series further.

Episode 1 was quite a failure in presenting the series properly. Too much of action and too little plot. Unfortunately I didn't continue the series based on the poor first episode, but I got curious by the latest episode 04 due to boredom and after watching it I was kinda hooked and played all the episodes in reverse to get the whole story. The main unit characters (3) are the most interesting part in the whole series due to their changing relationship with each other (hate/curiosity/confusion). I smell a possible alien/ human relationship coming...hopefully. There is one thing especially which is still bugging me and it is the main female character (who should be the lead) who is pictured to be quite strong because she's alien, has violent/ sexual urges etc but in every fight she has been in, she loses or somehow the suspect escapes. WTF? She should kick some serious ass. Make her more Domina, scary in a sexy way.

Hunters offers up a clumsy start, to a series that, so far, fails to inspire.
The show taps into the shadow government organization hunting aliens stick. Its hardly original but that's OK. What's not OK is the poorly constructed storyline and characterizations.
Its story never really makes clear whats happening or why. You get vague pieces of information, combined with showy scenes of amongst other things, the done to death, alien autopsy. Perhaps this is intended to intrigue the viewer? The reality is, it simply confuses.
The characterizations are hardly impressive either. They feel flat and lifeless. There's no strong emotion, clarity of purpose or real connection built between the key characters. This includes those who are romantically involved. As a consequence the key players are, for the most part, rendered uninteresting and dismissable.
For myself, there is little to like here. I was genuinely bored by the first episode and doubt, I'll be taking this one any further. Three out of ten from me.

When something tries hard to emulate something else, but doesn't quite make it, it enters an area of psychology referred to as the "uncanny valley"; for example, a mannequin that is almost real, but not quite. When a person encounters something that takes them into the uncanny valley, it sets off an anxiety and makes them uncomfortable. This is why we don't make dummies that look too human-like, they put shoppers off.
"Hunters" lives firmly inside the uncanny valley. Virtually all of the actors are Australian. It's filmed in one of the most Australian of cities, Melbourne, inside Melbourne buildings and houses. They really try their best to put on American accents but outside of the veterans they often fail -- sometimes quite comically. Australia is not North America. Escalators are reversed. Vehicles have the steering wheels on the wrong side. The architecture is distinctly un-American. The list goes on.
It's a recipe for a perfect storm of distractions, and when the show itself is quite borderline in terms of plot, acting and editing the last thing you need is to then shove viewers out of what meager frame you have by shouting at them that this is "fake". At the very least the lead actors ought to have been North American. Maybe they could have anchored the rest of it but with all Aussies it's all at sea.

OK I am Australian and I watched 5 mins of this and knew right off it was made in Australia with a full Australian cast but one.
For some reason it might be the lack of syfi series made in Australia, Australian directors and actors like to treat all work as Art house drama. We just don't do suspense well. So saying that, this makes the first ep very disjointed. Like other reviewers, you do not feel a connection to the characters. This I blame the director. The acting is fine if you can get over the bad American accents. Flynn the main is pretty good with his dialect, the others need a lot of work. But the whole ep is all over the place. As viewers we want to love the main guy we want to have empathy for him weather it be a syfi or crime show. Sadly if the directing does not pull together suspense and let the characters develop I see this not picking up a second series.

But apparently the theory that we live in a matrix of parallel universes is true. In my universe this was great science fiction.
I have no idea what the people who knocked this excellent adult sci- fi series were watching - And can't even imagine what they expected. Well they got what they wanted - canceled after 13 episodes.
There have been quite a few good alien invasion series over the years, especially in the late 1990s such as "First Wave", "Dark Skies", and "Earth Final Conflict"
Apparently somewhere between then and now - real aliens have taken over the planet Earth, dumbed down the Human mind, and made inane old style Westerns in a sci-fi format seem good, and intelligent sci-fi like Hunters not understandable to the average viewer.
So accept the truth - the aliens have taken over, watch your Firefly and the Expanse and all the exciting soap opera and drama that goes with it - And skip the really intelligent sci-fi like Hunters - the aliens have won and they will keep you dumbed down. so Don't worry be happy.

''HUNTERS'' I just think that 5.1 is too much for this CRAP. Warning: This series may contain horrible action scenes working together with horrible actors.
I couldn't watch it all, i stopped watching in the first 20 minutes because this series really sucks. The history of this crap is a total bullshit.
The first episode deserves 1.5, (for their dedication) given for all the mistakes committed.
Congratulations for the whole team who did it (writer, director, actors..) you successfully MESSED UP the entire episode.

This show started off with action from the first episode. I don't know why people seem so disturb by this. Many movies have started this way, then go back and fill in the details. So yeah, I may not have understood everything that was going on but it was intriguing enough to keep me watching to want to know more. And I didn't feel lost or confused. I think it is a very interesting storyline which they are developing at a decent pace. Now that we are a couple of episodes in the storyline and relationships are developing nicely. For me, it is a nice change from the "baby" and "corny" sci-fi that has taken over the last few years. Hope it continues...would love to see where this one goes.

It's more than decent and worth your time...
It has the right touch all over, quality is good.
If u cant find something worth ure time regarding thriller sci-fi, this is a more than decent 1 season enough..
When i see that 5 grade i would say its a 6-7 not more, never more. But when u weigh everything upp its above 5 without a doubt.

story is very classic. you can find many similar series in TV. .....................
in episode 6. the story about Turkey is completely bullshit and lie. .....................
the place is not belong Turkey. Bad Turkish also.
it gives wrong information to the people.
what is your problem with Turkey?
It looks rather cheap, boring characters & cast, and the writing isn't good at all. After only a few minutes you know that sadly it's a waste of time

Flynn Carroll (Nathan Phillips) is an FBI agent struggling to find his missing wife. His search leads to alien Hunters and Homeland Security's Exo-Terrorism Unit out to stop them. He is teamed up with Regan (Britne Oldford) who is an extraterrestrial herself. Their power is sonic in nature. There is a secret invasion and purge. As they investigate, the world gets more complicated.
I'm willing to give some props to the show for a few interesting ideas. I really like the sonic nature of the aliens which is a little different than the usual fare. However, the show is jumbled and packed. I don't think it's well-thought out. It's a muddled mess. The concept could be laid out better and given more time to germinate. I like Britne but Nathan is not that charismatic. This is a lost cause before it got to the screen.

I avoided Hunters for the 1st couple of episodes and then tried episode #3 and all I wanted was the back-story: who is Allison, how did she get here, what happened to her parents, who the hell is chasing her and why is she different from the difference, never mind the humans?.
So I started in on #2 and then to #1 and I was even more hooked. Hunters has a highly atmospheric, Dark City/Synchronicity look and feel. It is cinematically very dark to carry off the Predator thread. Hunters is well acted, good dialogue and not overly FXd.
I mentioned Predator, Aliens and Spock but it also resembles The Americans in its paranoia and the unease I feel while watching it. It definitely plays to the unease with 'the other' going on in US society, particularly with the trans-gendered issues of gender bending but more toward what will eventually happen when we are augmented by nanotechnology to the point of being 'aliens' in our own societies.
I think if you like The Aliens on E4 you will enjoy Hunters as well. I'm in.

After a confused start, and transfusion with a sieve, pull turn this picture and Activities something more useful. But after the second series, the plot slowly and firmly catches your attention, and it is impossible to stop already. It was torn off by the inability of the narrative, and the liveliness of all events, the series adds points. Natural behavior, albeit a little cardboard, attracts your attention, and requests the addition of more and more! Bravo! Very addictive, best adventure for the last time! I'd like to believe that the renewed for a second season! All the same it is so rare, to experience the story with the characters of the narrative ...
