“I was so upset”: One Piece’s Mihawk Steven John Ward Is Relieved He Lost His Role in Netflix’s Death Note
Image
Live-action adaptations have always been a disappointment for anime fans who only hope to see their favorite anime adapted in real life. Among these cursed anime live-action adaptations, the one that felt the most disappointing was Death Note, which came out on Netflix in 2017.

The live-action movie was one of the most anticipated projects for Death Note fans, but these anticipations turned into regret because of the way the movie desecrated the entire story of the original Death Note. The movie tried to westernize the concept of Death Note and thus failed miserably.

Its failure was so big that actor Steven John Ward, who plays Dracule Mihawk in the One Piece live-action, was happy when he lost his role in the movie during the auditions. He once talked about how he auditioned for a role in the Death Note movie, but got rejected. However, he was actually happy when he...

‘Triggered’: Film Review
Alastair Orr
You have to say one thing about the hapless characters in the new horror film directed by Alastair Orr (House on Willow Street, Indigenous): They at least know exactly what kind of movie they’re in. Turning homicidally on each other in the woods with bombs attached to their chests, they manage to throw in joking references to the Saw movies and John Wick, among other things. The problem is that these occasionally clever throwaway gags in Triggered mostly remind you of far better viewing experiences.

Triggered - Jennie Kermode - 16287
Kayla Privett, Steven John Ward, and Liesl Ahlers in Contra o Relógio (2020)
A slice of high concept horror with nicely drawn characters, Triggered is the latest work by Alastair Orr, the man behind 2016 genre hit From A House On Willow Street. It makes use of some familiar tropes but draws them together into a story that stands up well in its own right, with tight pacing and explosive energy.

It begins with that old genre staple, a weekend trip to the woods, where a group of young people get together - some of them meeting for the first time since high school - and sit around a campfire to talk and drink. Exactly how they all came to be invited on this trip is a bit of a mystery, however, as they weren't all close friends. They don't have long in which to start figuring it out before gas starts drifting around their camp and they all pass out - only to.

‘American Exorcism’ VOD Review
Stars: Michael Filipowich, Kate Tumanova, William McKinney, Jessica Morris, Jennifer Lee Wiggins, Braxton Davis, Sicily Fontaine, John Paul Sales, Luke Wright | Written and Directed by Tripp Weathers

Retired demon wrangler Damon Richter is pulled back into the game when his estranged daughter is possessed by the spirit responsible for destroying his life and family. Together with his ex-priest pal, the bearded, tattooed beach bum sets about putting his own supernatural abilities to good use. That is, of course, when he isn’t busy posing moodily and glowering from beneath his impressive beard, like an over-filtered Instagram celebrity.

Of all the horror subgenres, few lend themselves to low budget quite like the exorcism movie. Sure, there’s room for all the fancy special effects, pea soup and levitating demons that money can buy, but all you really need to make it work is a bed, some chains and a profanity-laced script.

Official Trailer for Alastair Orr's Horror Film 'House on Willow Street'
"You should really let me go... Or you're all going to die tonight." IFC Midnight has released the official trailer for an indie horror film titled House on Willow Street, formerly From a House on Willow Street (the full title when it premiered at FrightFest last year). From director Alastair Orr, the film is about a group of kidnappers who take a young woman from a house on Willow Street. They soon find out they chose the wrong person to kidnap, as the girl is actually a demonic killer herself. Sharni Vinson stars, along with Carlyn Burchell, Steven Ward, Zino Ventura, and Gustav Gerdener. This film actually looks totally crazy and freaky and violent and everything. It gets even weirder when the special effects kick in. Have fun. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Alastair Orr's House on Willow Street, from IFC's YouTube: After a young woman (Sharni Vinson) is kidnapped,...

‘From a House on Willow Street’ Trailer Loaded With Nightmarish Makeup Effects
Sharni Vinson, Carlyn Burchell, and Zino Ventura in O Demônio da Rua Willow (2016)
Evil has an address. In last year’s Don’t Breathe, a group of young friends broke into a house and found themselves quickly in way over the heads. The characters in this year’s From a House on Willow Street, well, they’ve also made a choice that they’re going to live (and die) to regret. They’ve decided […]...

Toronto After Dark 2016 Review: From A House On Willow Street Frustrates As It Keeps Its Distance
Four kidnappers get more than they bargained for when they kidnap Katherine, the daughter of a diamond broker. They take her to an abandoned factory and prepare to hold her for a ransom. However, trouble starts brewing when they cannot locate her parents and make their demands. As the crew uncovers the truth about their victim, they realize that they are no longer the most dangerous people in the building. There is a lot to like about From a House on Willow Street. It is a handsome film. The production design is pretty good. I was concerned that everyone in the cast had flashlights surgically stitched to their hands. (Seriously, I hope they got sponsored for using someone’s flashlights. All. The time.) But flashlight beams...
