Normandy Is My Name is such a fun film! My wife and I enjoyed it a lot (and that is saying a lot for my wife)! We like supporting indie films but you often times can find a dud. But not this time! We thoroughly enjoyed this little gem from beginning to end. We liked the story, the acting and directing. The film moved along at a good pace. Bravo to all who helped to make this film. Two thumbs up from my wife and myself!!
I'm not the best audience for a teen comedy, so read the review with this in mind. This film starts with a great idea, very much a concern in many households today, the total attention to electronics to the exclusion of everything else. Parents impose a 30 day moratorium on their 5 teens...no internet, no phones, etc. This could be a nice family film that might make youngsters think about relying more on personal interaction, tho some of the language might need to be adjusted for the younger crowd. Nehemiah Deason did a nice job as Bentley. The dialogue, exposition and scenes could use trimming with instead more visual communication between the actors. Less is more.
This movie is funny. Sometimes through its own unique voice and commentary on its great premise; sometimes unintentionally. The characters can feel stock or broad at times (notable exceptions being the titular Normandy and her Grandma), but each adds a wrinkle to the concept of teens connecting beyond their digital personas. There are some scenarios they present that I would've loved to see another pass at the dialogue to make it flow more naturally (which would probably help some of the actors struggling to make deliveries sound natural), but some lines that are immediately hilarious and memorable (again, grandma sticks with you). I appreciated the filmmakers had something to say, did it with humor and consideration of different viewpoints, and made some real connections between the characters. A low budget first time feature, starring local amateurs is no easy task, but the filmmaker seems to find his footing a bit with this effort. Looking forward to him honing his voice in future efforts.
Lots of good reviews here. However couldnt really recommend. The adult actors let it down, script and direction were stilted or unrealistic. The background music often didnt really work. However it was a worthwhile attempt -and did pretty well for the low budget.
This film has a Nickelodeon or After School Special vibe and concerns four teens undergoing digital withdrawal when their parents remove social media from their lives. They learn the value of meaningful relationships through actual interaction and develop strong friendships. It's competently shot and edited possessing a light tone.
