Der Lack ist ab

No pun intended - this is for a generation that missed out on things and has to deal with ageing, with love and love making - with the issues of their kids, their friends and so many other people around them. And it has quite a few interesting actors/cameos in between.

It tries and mostly succeeds in tip toeing around many subject matters, like me too and swapping the life partners. Or social media - celebrities, how to make money, how to parent, how to argue with each other ... or not. It does not say that it has answers for everything, but it does have and it does deal with everyday stuff - so in a sense it may feel redundant, but it also is as funny as one can be ... it does depict some things a bit over the top, but generally speaking the fun can be found in everything (truth can hurt - and can also be educational to a degree - we all get there at one point in time - if we are lucky enough to get "old").

Let's talk about ... well everything! The very first episode is about that - women talking about their bodies, but also about young people and how they view them ... mothers I'd like to - yes that very well known ... "compliment" about mothers is mentioned! And the way it is discussed informs how the show will play out. If you dig that, you will dig the rest. Around 10 minutes per episode are a neat little thing ... and you can watch them, however and whenever you want. I can see why this was successful.

Kai Wiesinger not only stars as the protagonist in this web format with his partner Bettina Zimmermann as mid-forties couple Tom and Hanna, he also played an active role in the development of the books and is making his directorial debut. What began as a web series has since been signed by Amazon.

Is that it or is there more to come? That's the question Kai Wiesinger asks himself in the series. "With 'Der Lack ist ab' we want to reach a target group that is just as old as we are and for whom there is far too little good entertainment on the web," says Wiesinger, "We tell about the topics that you've never heard of when you're 20 and that overtake you when you're 40."

With wit, charm and self-irony, Kai Wiesinger reveals that the biological clock is also ticking in men. And not everyone with gray hair automatically looks like George Clooney. Are varifocals the beginning of the end? What happens when you feel old or look old? When should you make a will, who takes care of your parents and how does a colonoscopy feel?

The whimsical, amusing exchange of words seems unfiltered and Tom talks his head off Woody Allen-like. The couple not only harmonizes behind the camera, but also forms a dynamic duo in front of it. They have prominent support in guest roles from: Anja Kling, Christiane Paul, Johann von Bülow, Silke Bodenbender, Ben Becker, Christoph M. Ohrt, Udo Walz, Ralph Herforth, Benjamin Sadler, Laura Tonke, Valerie Niehaus, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Heinrich Schafmeister, Aglaia Szyszkowitz.

With the very entertaining, true-to-life episodes (approx. 11 min.) there were always some that were very good, others a bit weaker, but overall the series entertained me well. There are always situations in which you recognize yourself or your partner, but of course in a very exaggerated form, so that we often had to smile or laugh.
