After one of the scares, Paul runs out of the strobe light room and vomits. That was real and not scripted. The actor threw up for real on camera.
The film was shot at a real haunted house attraction in Towamensing, Pennsylvania called the Haunting at the Waldorf Hotel. This haunt did take over an abandoned hotel just like in the movie.
Writer/Director Stephen Cognetti is uncredited in the movie, but plays the camera operator with the tour group in the main sequence of the film.
The eye trick Joey does in the movie is his actual eye, meaning he has it between his fingers. Also, he warns others not to try it.
The abandoned hotel does not exist in real life, but was filmed at the Waldorf Hotel in Towamensin, Pennsylvania, run by Angie Moyer, who served as the film's set designer. It's located in the parking lot of Country Junction general store.
