Rough Stuff

This is one that I watched in passing lately, and it's a fun little filler for time.

Recycling various jokes from similar action adventure thrills into an environmental tinged movie, we have gold diggers, mysterious men, greedy capitalists, slackers and the obligatory poor little rich girl falling in love with the hunk with a heart!

So you can already figure out the storyline, so no need to go thru that.

We have here a low budget movie which is daft but fun enough. Enough jokes to keep you going despite nothing home to write home about. For the director and actors it's a good jumping point to something else (you got to begin somewhere) and in time they will look this with a smile.

As always, the film is stolen by the slackers/stoners, in this movie played by Sam Glissan ('Scraps'). He and his lady are the two best things here.

As it's derivative etc, it wasn't for me but i still went with it. Reminds me of those tv movies that used to come on on a Friday evening to fill in the time when i was a kid, and sometimes they were a lot of fun,

Look, I think you'll still go along with this. One for Saturday afternoon when nothing else is on, and you know what you'll leave with a smile.

I saw this for the first time as an overnight rental from my local video store.

If you're looking for a Fast and Furious style Aussie movie with a strong storyline, you will be disappointed (face it, you didn't watch fast and furious for the storylines, it was always about "cars and girls, cars and girls" ref: directors commentary of 2 Fast 2 Furious). If you're looking for movie where you get to see the Australian outback, some four wheel driving... and somewhat of a story line in the background similar to Fools Gold, throw in some Aussie slang and a couple of Americans who are confused by every bit of slang used, then this is for you.

This movie is what you probably expected. It's cheezy and the whole story is written around crazy off roaders trucks. It's like 2 guys in a bar said to each other, "Hey! We like off roading. Let's make a movie about it!" And then, while still drunk, they wrote this story. Funny thing is, it ain't half bad. I loved the actors and their characters. Actually kinda enjoyed some of the 4 wheelin' stuff. Even kinda liked the fist fights. If you are bored and looking for a bearable C movie, this might be it for you. Bad acting.... bad practical effect but it was a good laugh, the very much not impressive soundtrack didn't help hyp you up and didn't do anything good for the film..... The only thing this movie could provide was confusion.... It only left me thinking, how did they not see that, how could they miss that, how the f.... what happened there, are they for real?

The fighting scenes were not something to get excited over as well, being hard to follow what happened in the moment and not seeing the logic in what and why they chose to make it like that. Morten Korch fighting scenes are gold compared to this, and they were made 60-80 years ago....

A film about a bunch of bush people who love four wheel drives that try and find fools gold but it never quite delivers. It's trying to be a hollywood action film drop in a hot American girl and you think you have a movie. Trying too hard to emulate 80s or 90s adventure / action films. It only delivers on some action, but the characters are boring, the dialogue not very good and the actors as well as they are good, there's nothing special happening. Don't waste your time this film is so boring even with all the adventure. The missing ingredient is EMOTION, there's nothing compelling or interesting to draw you in. It's shot well too so not too many positives here.
