Image
Loni Anderson, whose beloved role as Jennifer Marlowe on “Wkrp in Cincinnati” was nominated for Emmy and Golden Globe awards, has died, her publicist confirmed Sunday. She was 79.

Anderson played the “sexy-yet-smartest-person-in-the-room receptionist” on the hit TV series about a mixed-format radio station from 1978 to 1982. She died Sunday in Los Angeles following an acute prolonged illness, surrounded by family, longtime publicist Cheryl Kagan told TheWrap.

“We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and grandmother,” the family said in a statement.

Anderson starred in six TV series, seven feature films, 19 TV movies and two min-series over the years. After her diagnosis, she continued working co-starring in Lifetime’s “Ladies Of The 80’s: A Divas Christmas” with Linda Gray, Donna Mills, Morgan Fairchild and Nicollette Sheridan. The TV movie aired in late December 2023.

“Loni was a class act. Beautiful. Talented. Witty. Always a joy to be around,...

Charlamagne Tha God Calls ‘The View’ ‘Ridiculous’ for Its Lack of Conservative Guests
Image
Charlamagne Tha God has taken issue with the lack of political diversity among The View‘s show guests. “I think it’s ridiculous that The View has had … 102 left-leaning guests and zero conservatives,” he shared on the Monday, August 4, episode of The Breakfast Club radio show. “That is ridiculous to have a platform and … only talk to people that you agree with. That makes no sense whatsoever to me.” He also thanked Lara Trump for having him as a guest on her Fox News series, My View with Lara Trump, on Saturday, August 2, during which they discussed daytime and late-night talk shows allegedly alienating conservative audiences with their content. In addition to praising Charlamagne for having people of differing political beliefs on his radio show, Trump brought up a report stating that The View has hosted 102 liberal guests on the show since the beginning of this year and zero conservatives.

As Erika Slezak prepares to make her Port Charles debut this fall on General Hospital, longtime One Life to Live fans may be surprised to learn that the Daytime Emmy-winning actress won’t be reprising her iconic role as Victoria Lord, or bringing any of that character’s baggage with her. ‘Who Wants To Be a Millionaire’ Ratings Revealed After Ken Jennings’ $1 Million Win
Image
Never underestimate the power of the Jeopardy! fandom. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? had its best ratings in five years after Ken Jennings and Matt Damon won $1 million for charity on the latest episode. Millionaire, which is hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, was the top program of the night for the second week in a row, according to a press release. ABC can thank Ken Jennings for that. He appeared on both episodes with Damon, winning the $1 million prize for Water.org. Their game went so long that it stretched into two episodes. Episode two rose week-to-week in total viewers from 4.24 million to 4.46 million viewers. Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? also held 100 percent retention in adults ages 18 to 49. A factor that made Millionaire tower over the number two broadcast program, Big Brother, on Wednesday was most likely Kimmel and Damon’s ongoing “feud.” Also, Damon and Jennings’ quest for the $1 million,...

Two prequels and three present-day spinoffs have been released and announced in the time since — 1883, 1923, Y: Marshals, the Beth and Rip series, and The Madison — and there’s reportedly another prequel, 1944, in the works. So, what’s up with 6666? Here’s everything we could find about the show’s movements. Is the 6666 spinoff still happening? As of the time of publication, there...

‘Big Brother’: Who Is on the Block in Week 4?
Image
Week four of Big Brother got off to an exciting start. A new Head of Household was crowned and then dethroned all within 24 hours. Fans saw a bit of a shake-up on the block compared to the past three weeks. After Adrian Rocha said goodbye in an eight-to-four vote on Thursday, it was time for a new Hoh to be crowned. As outgoing Hoh, Lauren Domingue was not eligible to compete. For this competition, houseguests had to team up in three teams of four, leaving one contestant, Kelley Jorgensen, out. They had to walk on thin balance beams and hit a button on four boxes in the fastest time without falling off to proceed to the next round. The winner of the round was allowed to eliminate two people from another team. Jorgensen was then allowed to play in the next round as the teams were reduced to three people each.

Will Piper Perabo Return for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Season 22? Here’s What the Actress Says…
Image
We’re now just over two months out from the return of Grey’s Anatomy for Season 22, and there are still many, many questions about what’s coming next on the landmark medical-slash-disaster drama. Chief among them? Who, if anyone, was hurt or killed in that surgical wing explosion in the Season 21 finale? There were several characters shown to be directly in harm’s way at the time of the blast… and others whose exact location was unclear. One character whose fate seemed to be sealed was that of Piper Perabo‘s Jenna Gatlin, the desperate mother who held up an entire operating room with a gas tank and a flint striker to force Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) to perform a risky surgery on her daughter. After the operation proved to be successful, Jenna revealed she was bluffing, and the tank was empty. She was still arrested on the spot and carted away from the scene.

Daniel Dae Kim is one of the most recognizable Korean American actors in the business. So when he saw the opportunity to meld the cultures of his birthplace and where he grew up with Butterfly, Amazon’s new six-part spy thriller, he seized on it. The series, which he stars in and executive produces, adapts Arash Amel’s graphic novel of the same name but fully moves the action from Europe to South Korea. “I’ve always been interested in projects that bridge cultures. Being Korean American, I’ve lived and experienced two different ones that I have never seen really melded together on screen before through the lens of someone like me, a Korean American,” he told TV Insider. “So when this project came along through a meeting that I had with Boom Comics, I thought, ‘Well, it’s a show about a father ...

John Oliver Shades Jay Leno’s ‘Late Show’ Cancellation Comments
Image
John Oliver and Jay Leno have differing opinions when it comes to political comedy on late-night TV. In a recent interview with David Trulio, president and CEO of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation, Leno criticized late-night hosts for alienating “half the audience” with their personal political opinions. “It’s funny when … you make fun of their side and they laugh at it. I don’t think anybody wants to hear a lecture,” he said, adding, “I don’t understand why you would alienate one particular group … just do what’s funny.” Oliver, however, told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published on Tuesday, August 5, that he will “take a hard pass on taking comedic advice from Jay Leno.” When asked if late-night shows should appeal more to both sides of the political spectrum, Oliver stated, “Who thinks that way? Executives? Comedy can’t be for everyone. It’s inherently subjective.

‘Wednesday’ Showrunners Preview Season 2: A Budget Bump, Pithy One-Liners, and Casting a Magician as Thing
Image
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar have been writing together ever since they met at USC’s Peter Stark producing program in the early ’90s and sold their first script to New Line Cinema.

After countless movies and TV series, this week they premiere Season 2 of their popular series “Wednesday,” executive-produced by Tim Burton, on Netflix. Having sampled the first four episodes, I can attest that Season 2 is even more delicious than Season 1.

For one thing, for budget reasons, the showrunners had to trim some Season 1 subplots, thus relying more heavily on young star Jenna Ortega, now age 22, in the title role of Addams daughter Wednesday, an amateur supernatural detective in her first year at outsider school Nevermore Academy. This time around, with Netflix loosening the purse strings, the series expands with new characters including eager-to-please Nevermore Principal Dort (Steve Buscemi) and Grandmama Hester Frump (Joanna Lumley), while giving more time...
