The Story: H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) does the impossible – after writing about a time machine he actually builds one. Too bad then that one of his dearest friends is secretly Jack the Ripper (David Warner) and uses the machine to escape justice by going into the future – 1979 San Francisco to be exact. Left with no choice and believing that he’s unleashed a monster upon a utopia (ha!), Wells pursues him through time, but winds up being a lot more out of his element than his nemesis.

The producers of Time After Time are Wells aware that when the ABC drama makes its debut, it will be (conservatively speaking) TV’s sixth current series with a time travel element.

That, however, makes things a bit easier, says executive producer Kevin Williamson (The Following), seeing as viewers are just a bit more likely to be familiar with “time ripples,” the Butterfly Effect and such.

Jack also is the nemesis of H.G. Wells, the drama’s protagonist, played by UnREAL‘s Freddie Stroma.

"Harry Potter" and "UnReal" star Freddie Stroma has been cast as the lead, author H.G. Wells, in Kevin Williamson's ABC pilot "Time After Time" based on Karl Alexander's fantasy novel. The story follows Wells as he tracks Jack the Ripper through time to the modern day.

The project was previously adapted for the screen as a Nicholas Meyer film in 1979 which starred Malcolm McDowell and David Warner. Marcos Siega is directing the TV version's pilot. [Source: Deadline]

The Great Indoors

"Community" star Joel McHale has signed on to star in CBS' multicamera comedy pilot "The Great Indoors". Mike Gibbons ("Tosh.0") created the series and is penning the script and executive producing.

The story centers on McHale's Joel, an outdoorsy adventure reporter with a sardonic sense of humor who must adapt to the times when he becomes the boss of a group of millennials in the digital department of the magazine.

"Scream" film franchise writer and "The Following" creator Kevin Williamson has set up his next series - an ABC drama series adaptation of Karl Alexander's high-concept 1979 time travel-themed novel "Time After Time".

The book followed young Victorian-era author H.G. Wells who penned "The Time Machine" and "War Of The Worlds". Turns out his time machine is quite real and is hijacked by a friend of his, a surgeon named Leslie John Stephenson who is also Jack the Ripper.

With Scotland Yard on his tail Leslie flees to the future - San Francisco 1979 to be precise - and Wells follows in pursuit to try and bring him to justice. Malcolm McDowell, David Warner and Mary Steenburgen starred in a film adaptation of the work.
