Mexico City, June 10 (Ians) LA Galaxy’s Mexican striker Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez will require surgery after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, the Major League Soccer (Mls) club said on Friday.

The 35-year-old sustained the injury during the Galaxy’s US Open Cup quarterfinal defeat at Real Salt Lake on Wednesday and subsequent scans confirmed his worst fears, reports Xinhua.

“Hernandez will undergo surgery on a date to be determined to begin the rehabilitation process,” Galaxy said in a statement on the club’s official website.

The injury comes barely two months after Mexico manager Diego Cocca told journalists that Hernandez was under consideration for a return to the national team.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid player has not represented his country since September 2019 after falling out with former manager Gerardo Martino.

Mexico City, March 26 (Ians) Mexico manager Diego Cocca has called for patience as he seeks to instil a winning mentality in his squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cocca marked his debut in the dugout for Mexico’s national men’s football team last Thursday by overseeing a 2-0 away victory over Suriname in the Concacaf Nations League, reports Xinhua.

Mexico City, March 23 (Ians) Argentine manager Diego Cocca has promised to adopt an attacking playing style as he prepares for his first match in charge of Mexico’s national team.

Mexico City, March 7 (Ians) Mexico national team manager Diego Cocca said that he has not yet settled on a preferred formation for Concacaf Nations League matches against Suriname and Jamaica.

Cocca, who replaced Argentine Gerardo Martino as Mexico’s head coach last month, said he would adapt his tactics and playing style to the players that are at his disposal, reports Xinhua news agency.

“The systems will be dictated by the players,” he told reporters after a training session.

“The advantage I have is that there are a lot of talented players to choose from, and my job will be to choose the best ones.”

Mexico will play Suriname away on March 23 and Jamaica at Mexico City’s Azteca stadium three days later.

The fixtures will be the team’s first outings since last year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar, where Mexico failed to progress beyond the group stage.
