Netflix's In the Tall Grass Ending Explained
Image
Vincenzo Natali's horror film In the Tall Grass has a harrowing yet ambiguous climax, so it helps to have In the Tall Grass explained in detail including how the ending differs from the source material. Released on Netflix, In the Tall Grass stars Laysla de Oliveira and Avery Whitted as Becky and Cal DeMuth, siblings who are on a road trip to San Diego. Unlike the original Stephen King In the Tall Grass short story,...

Netflix's In the Tall Grass Movie Ending, Explained
Image
At the end of In The Tall Grass, Travis redeems himself by sacrificing his own life to save Tobin and break the time loop. Tobin is essential in breaking the loop by warning his family and showing Becky the truth about Travis. While the cycle seems broken, the possibility remains that more sinners may fall victim to the field's hunger.

The following contains major spoilers for Netflix's In the Tall Grass, now streaming.

Based on the 2012 novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill, Netflix's In the Tall Grass is an existential experience, despite the seemingly simple-minded concept depicted in the trailers. In the heart of America, a couple of families become trapped in a field opposite a church, not realizing they're in a time loop and luring one another in.

This haunted field acts as a gateway to Purgatory, with a mystical rock judging the families for their sins.

In The Tall Grass Review: Netflix Stephen King Horror Movie Gets Lost in the Weeds
Based on a story by Stephen King and Joe Hill, In the Tall Grass doesn’t really grow on you.

facebook

twitter

tumblr

Legendary horror novelist Stephen King and his son, the acclaimed horror and comic book author Joe Hill, have collaborated twice on the page, each time coming up with something memorably creepy and squarely in what one could probably call the family tradition. The second of those two tales, “In the Tall Grass,” has now been made into a feature-length film for Netflix by director and writer Vincenzo Natali, the Canadian director who first got on the map in 1997 with the mind-twisting Cube.

Cube was about six random people trapped in a massive, labyrinthine structure for reasons unknown who must solve its deadly mysteries to escape. So on paper it kind of makes sense that he would adapt a story about another half dozen characters caught in another eerie maze-like scenario,...

‘In the Tall Grass’ Review: A Dull Stephen King Adaptation in Need of Serious Lawn Care
Stephen King at an event for Sob o Domínio do Mal (2004)
Given the strength of its pedigree and the intrigue of its premise, . Adapted from a recent piece of short fiction that Stephen King and his son Joe Hill co-wrote for Esquire Magazine, the film opens by introducing us to another of the shifting nightmare spaces that Natali first explored so effectively in 1997’s “Cube.” This time around the location isn’t an inescapable prison full of horrifying death traps, but rather a deep and disorienting field of — you guessed it — tall grass that’s located somewhere in the American Midwest (where exactly in the American Midwest is something of a plot point in a movie that only has something of a plot).

If that sounds like a less frightening scenario than just about anything the director has started with before, that’s because it is, but viewers familiar with the source material know that evil loves to disguise itself in the mundane.

‘In the Tall Grass’ Trailer: Vincenzo Natali Adapts Stephen King and Joe Hill’s Horror Tale
The year of Stephen King continues. After Pet Sematary and It Chapter Two and before Doctor Sleep, another one of his adaptations will be arriving–this time on Netflix. In the Tall Grass, based on the 2012 novella by King and his son Joe Hill, is written and directed by Vincenzo Natali. Ahead of a Fantastic Fest premiere, Netflix has now unveiled the first trailer and poster.

The story centers on a group who enter a large field to rescue a boy only to find more sinister forces at work. “Some places have a mind of their own.”

Netflix has dropped the first trailer for their Stephen King and Joe Hill horror thriller, In The Tall Grass. The movie was written and directed by Vincenzo Natali, and it looks creepy as hell as a group of people get trapped in field of tall grass and descend into madness.

The movie stars Harrison Gilbertson, Laysla De Oliveira, Avery Whitted, Will Buie Jr., Rachel Wilson, and Patrick Wilson. Here’s the synopsis that was shared:

When siblings Becky and Cal hear the cries of a young boy lost within a field of tall grass, they venture in to rescue him, only to become ensnared themselves by a sinister force that quickly disorients and separates them. In the Tall Grass Trailer Brings Stephen King & Joe Hill's Frightening Tale to Netflix
Netflix has revealed the first trailer for In the Tall Grass. This serves as the latest work by Stephen King to get the movie treatment. But this one is a little different, as it's based on a novella that he co-wrote with his son, Joe Hill.

This also shouldn't be viewed as a gimmick, as Joe Hill has asserted himself as a master storyteller in his own right, as the author of works such as NOS4A2 and Locke & Key. Based on this first trailer, King and Hill make for quite the scary pairing.

The trailer kicks off on what looks to be a rather nice day in the middle of nowhere. A couple pulls off to the side of the road after hearing a boy yell for help because he's lost in, you guessed it, a field of tall grass. After going in after the boy, things get creepy and complicated.

Don’t Get Lost ‘In the Tall Grass’ in Trailer for Horror Film Based on Stephen King Novella (Video)
Stephen King at an event for Sob o Domínio do Mal (2004)
It’s just a field, right? That’s the entire premise to “In the Tall Grass,” a horror movie based on a Stephen King novella in which a group of people get lost in a massive, dense, grassy prairie and find themselves unable to escape.

King wrote the novella originally published in two parts in Esquire magazine in 2012 along with his son, Joe Hill. It’s the story of two inseparable siblings who hear the cries of a young boy lost within a tall field of grass. But when they venture in to rescue him, they find themselves ensnared by a sinister force that quickly disorients and separates them.

In the trailer for “In the Tall Grass,” we see the grass slicing into their ankles and the mud trapping them where they stand. And that little boy isn’t all he seems either.

Stephen King Adaptations: Every Film and TV Series In the Works From the Master of Horror
Stephen King at an event for Sob o Domínio do Mal (2004)
It’s a good time to be a Stephen King fan, as the master of horror’s many works have gotten new blood thanks to a slew of successful adaptations, from the box office record-breaker “It” (soon to be extended with a sequel!) to a number of streaming outlets getting their King fix to long-rumored adaptations finally coming to fruition. While much-hyped feature films like “It: Chapter Two” and “Doctor Sleep” gear up for 2019 releases and a pair of quite different series based on King’s works are preparing for new seasons, it seems like a new King adaptation is announced every week.

Case in point: in just the past two weeks, two King-inspired offerings have gotten the green light, with indie filmmaker darling Alex Ross Perry taking on a big screen version of short story “Rest Stop” just days after Julianne Moore announced she’d be starring in an...

In the Tall Grass: Release Date and Trailer for Netflix Stephen King & Joe Hill Movie
John Saavedra Joseph Baxter Sep 17, 2019

A movie based on Stephen King and Joe Hill's novella, In the Tall Grass, is coming to Netflix in October.

In the Tall Grass, a novella written by Stephen King and son Joe Hill originally published in Esquire and then released as an e-book, is getting the movie treatment from Splice director Vincenzo Natali. Why? Because just about anything that Stephen King wrote has become the object of a frenzied rush to acquire adaptation rights. – There are worse things that the industry could be collectively pursuing.

While this King onscreen offering – one of myriad others across all networks and streamers – will, quite literally, have you watching grass grow – centered on a murderous Kansas lawn – Netflix was the lucky outlet that won dibs.
