'Takopi's Original Sin' Breaks an IMDb Record That Even 'Solo Leveling' Couldn't Beat
Image
Move aside, Solo Leveling, Takopi's Original Sin is possibly 2025's newest anime hit. Since its first episode aired on June 28, 2025, the show not only caught the attention of fans, but it also broke a record that 2025's Anime of the Year couldn't reach. Could this anime miniseries be a contender for 2026's Anime of the Year title?

On IMDb, Takopi's Original Sin has been exceptionally well-received, with all six episodes scoring above nine stars. Episode 5 stands out with the highest rating of 9.7, and the series holds an impressive overall score of 9.1/10. In comparison, Solo Leveling has a slightly lower average rating of 8.6. Its lowest-rated episode is Season 1, Episode 8, with a score of 7.6, while its highest-rated episode is Season 2, Episode 12, which also earned a 9.7.

Takopi's Original Sin is an anime adaptation of a manga series by Taizan 5, where it follows an octopus-like alien named Takopi (Kurumi Mamiya), who travels to different...

Mappa Never Wanted to Turn ‘Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc’ Into a Season 2
Image
Alright, let’s just get this clear: Chainsaw Man is not coming back with a Season 2. Nope. At least, not yet. So, instead, we’re getting the next chapter of Denji’s blood-splattered story, and it’s heading straight to the big screen with Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc. And if you’re screaming, “Why a movie?!” believe us, you’re not alone.

So the thing is, it turns out Mappa never wanted to make Chainsaw Man‘s Reze Arc part of a second season in the first place. At Anime Expo 2025, Mappa president Manabu Otsuka finally spilled the chainsaw-flavored tea, and you know what? The reason actually does make a ton of sense. Maybe even more than you’d expect.

The Reze Arc Would’ve Ruined Chainsaw Man Season 2’s Flow: Otsuka says

Alright, quick manga refresher: the Reze arc of Chainsaw Man is where Denji gets a...

‘Chainsaw Man’ Producer Reveals Why the Reze Arc Was the Perfect Choice for a Movie Instead of a Second Season
Image
Only three months remain until Chainsaw Man - The Movie: Reze Arc will hit U.S. theaters. The first season of Chainsaw Man covered the first four-story arcs, teasing its next foe during the final episode. And while there was a chance that the Bomb Girl/Reze arc could have been part of Season 2, the team over at Mappa thinks this story could be better delivered in a movie format.

During a panel at Anime Expo 2025, Mappa's president, Manabu Otsuka, talked about the upcoming anime feature. When discussing the "Bomb Girl" arc and its exclusion from Season 2, Otsuka believed that this narrative would be better suited for the big screen, given its popularity and the desire to share it with a wider audience.

"I think that's why it's used on the small screen. And I think the Reze arc is like a fan favorite too, like people like that arc and you know,...

This New Dark Anime Has Already Dethroned 'Solo Leveling’ in a Major Way
Image
During the first quarter of 2025, Solo Leveling has dominated the anime space. It won "Anime of the Year" at the Crunchyroll Anime Awards, beating other big hitters like Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. It was also used as an example by Sony Entertainment as it became the most-streamed anime of Q1 2025. But now, as fans wait for confirmation of its third season, a brand-new anime with really dark themes that was released two weeks ago has dethroned one of Solo Leveling's records, and time will tell if it will become the most streamed show of Q2 2025.

Takopi's Original Sinwas released on Crunchyroll on June 28, 2025, and, as of writing, it currently has two episodes, with the third set to be released this weekend. According to IMDb, its first episode, "To You in 2016," received a ranking of 9.8 stars, toppling Solo Leveling's record of 9.7 for the episode "Are You the King of Humans,...

Attention! This is a PSA! The End is Nyaigh!

In case you missed the celebration of Cat Day in Japan this past Caturday, February 22, an all-new trailer has been released that warns of the upcoming “nyandemic.” From executive director Takashi Miike, the animated post-apocalyptic comedy series Nyaight of the Living Cat will begin streaming this July only on Crunchyroll worldwide excluding Asia. Sony Pictures Entertainment will be distributing in Asia and Japan.

Please spread awareness, but help reduce panic and hiss-teria by staying cautious and vigilant. Don’t let their cute faces and fluffy coats fool you. If you see a cat lying on its back, do not touch its belly. It’s a trap! If you see a cat making fresh biscuits, do not stop in awe. Before you know it, you may be swarmed by a clowder with no escape. If a cat makes contact with you, it’s already too late.

10 Bravest Solo Leveling Characters, Ranked
Image
Bravery isn't an uncommon trait in Solo Leveling characters. Most of these characters are placed in frightful situations often, but they still stand up to them, anyway. Despite the danger, they keep engaging with risks because the rewards may be worth it, and it's something they have to do. As such, picking out who the bravest characters in the series can be very difficult. There isn't a character who doesn't face some sort of trouble that plagues them. Still, some of these characters stand in defiance of greater odds than others.

Few S-rank hunters are on this list. While they do brave actions and put themselves in danger, S-ranks are better equipped for it than almost any other character. These hunters have well-earned confidence in themselves. The anime has yet to put most S-rank hunters when they can't be sure of themselves. The Jeju Island flashbacks do hint at the...

10 Quirkiest Female Anime Love Interests, Ranked
Image
It takes thoughtfulness to create a quirky female love interest in anime without falling into any annoying stereotypes. Their traits should be nuanced. There's a difference between a character who is very animated and goofy because they have niche interests and a fun sense of humor, and a character who is goofy for drama or fan service.

A well-written quirky girl or woman feels more like an eccentric individual than the tired "not like the other girls" trope. Eccentric love interests may have secret identities, or have a unique way of expressing creativity. Some have very granulated interests, like Maomao of The Apothecary Diaries, whose astute scientific mind leads her to enjoy ingesting poisons.

Solo Leveling Season 2's premiere and -ReAwakening- gave fans a glimpse of the excitement to come. Now, popular voice actors Taito Ban and Reina Ueda reveal an inside look into the two of the season's most important characters.

Solo Leveling voice actors Taito Ban (Sung Jinwoo) and Reina Ueda (Cha Hae-in) sat down with Real Sound to talk about Season 2, discussing the development of their characters. Jinwoo's path was described as "not bright, and he is heading in a dark direction," leaving Ban feeling "painfully sympathetic" to his character's "unyielding feelings" and "desire to become stronger." The voice acting industry was described as a "world where you compete with what you're born with," akin to Jinwoo himself, who was limited by his class -- unchangeable for most. Jinwoo is arguably Ban's biggest role, previously playing The Angel Next Door Spoils Me Rotten's Amane Fujimiya. This put major pressure on him when auditioning.
