An unlikely paradigm is playing out in social media: Unliking. It’s the antithesis of hoping you’ll always be right by my side. Is this progress? This Genesis story may shed some light.

In the beginning — like, way back in 2005 — media was massive, and it broadcast itself at us. You might say it had lived in the darkness of our wants for so long that it was…devoid — devoid of the nuance and subtleties that made it personal. Then, came social media, and, suddenly, we had choices.
We built our social networks by following people and things we liked. We felt so safe and so secure that we added accounts willy-nilly. And every day became such a perfect day to spend, alone, with our feeds.
It was a happy time. Ashton Kutcher raced CNN to see who could get to one million followers first. Spoiler: Ashton won; when he did,...

The Matrix is trending on Twitter, and it's almost certainly not for the reason fans of the legendary Sci-Fi franchise would think. The original film was released in 1999 and quickly became a pop-culture phenomenon. The film follows Neo (Keanu Reeves) in his journey to discover the meaning of the Matrix. With help from Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss), Neo finds Morpheus (Laurence Fishburn) and learns things he could never have expected before fighting a brutal battle for their lives against ruthlessly intelligent secret agents. Two more films were released in 2003, followed by a fourth installment, The Matrix Resurrections, in 2021.
While it's been used as a similar descriptor by many individuals over the years, "The Matrix" is currently trending on social media because of now-arrested Andrew Tate and popular YouTuber Logan Paul. The Matrix's titular concept revolved around the idea of powerful elites secretly controlling the lives of everyday people through technologically advanced means.

In his new film “The YouTube Effect,” Alex Winter (“Zappa”) probably isn’t going to blow too many minds with his assertion that, with the invention of YouTube, society sure has changed. By anyone’s measure, it’s been a tumultuous couple of decades: social upheavals aplenty, media paradigms a-shiftin’, misinformation amassing.
Thankfully, Winter doesn’t stop there. “The YouTube Effect” may be a catalog of very recent history, but it serves the valuable function of connecting the many, seemingly randomly assorted dots into a clear narrative picture. What began, oddly enough, as an idea for a video-knockoff version of the sleazy website “Hot or Not,” where people could share clips and the audience could provide binary feedback (“Hit that ‘Like’ Button!”) ballooned very quickly into a billion-dollar venture purchased by Google.
It’s almost quaint to watch 15-year-old headlines declare Google’s purchase of YouTube to be a financial blunder of epic proportions.

Louis Ck won the Grammy for Best Comedy Album at the 2022 Grammy Awardss, sparking widespread outrage among women for his apparent all-is-forgiven status, despite his documented and admitted history of sexually harassing and exposing himself to female comics.
The prevailing sentiment among critics is that his victory is evidence that there is no accountability, so long as an offender is connected or powerful. Or as Stanford professor Michelle Dauber put it, “Women are worth nothing to power. Nothing.”
C.K. won for his self-produced comedy show “Sincerely,” his first since admitting in 2017 to his years of sexual misconduct. Several female comics, including former colleagues, detailed examples which included C.K. locking women in his office and masturbating in front of them after ostensibly asking their permission under circumstances that the women did not feel were consensual. C.K.’s manager also threatened some of the women with career consequences if they went public.

Norman Lear and Brent Miller are set to executive produce an upcoming series about the 2014 Gamergate scandal. Meghan McCain is leaving “The View” after four years, and the move raises an important question — who’s going to take her place? Worry not, the People of the Internet already have plenty of ideas.
Some have real suggestions. While many are already speculating that McCain herself will eventually end up finding a job at Fox News, multiple current Fox folks are being floated as McCain’s replacement on ABC, arguing that “The View” will likely want to ensure another conservative voice continues to be on the panel. Suggestions there have included Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren and more.
Still others are hoping for the opposite. One popular choice is Ana Navarro, who has often filled in on “The View” when one of the hosts were out. Meanwhile, author David Hill suggested Ziwe, saying that she is the clear choice if “The View” is going to “atone” for McCain’s four years on the panel.
