“Is this the end of zombie Shakespeare?” It would appear not, as John Murlowski’s comedy Zombie Hamlet makes its way onto DVD on December 31st. Written by John McKinney and with original music by Jackson Rathbone, whom you might remember from Twilight or, if you’re too ashamed to admit you knew that, the indie horror flick Dread.

The film stars Travis Wester, Jason Mewes, Shelley Long, Vanessa Lee Evigan, John Amos, and June Lockhart.

Zombie Hamlet tells the story of first-time film director, Osric Taylor (Travis Wester), as he finally manages to get his dream movie financed. He envisions Shakespeare's Hamlet set against the epic backdrop of the American Civil War. Osric heads to a small Louisiana town to start filming when his production funding unexpectedly dries up. The undead get Shakespearean in the inevitable 2012 comedy film Zombie Hamlet.

Desperate filmmaker Osric Taylor (Travis Wester, TV’s Ghostfacers) dreams of making his Civil War-era Hamlet, but when production funding dries up, he agrees to take southern matron Hester Beauchamps’ (June Lockhart, TV’s Lost in Space) offer to fund the film if he throws some zombies in it to make their money back. But when Hester dies in mid shoot, Osric dresses up as Hester to cash the last check and awakens the suspicions of both the local police and ambitious local news reporter Shine Reynolds (Shelley Long, TV’s Cheers).

There is something magical that happens while reading Craig Dilouie's Tooth and Nail. Worries fall to the wayside, the trigger finger begins to twitch, the heart races, and the imagination focuses on a darker, more exciting, rage-filled world. This aptly titled novel released April 1st, 2010 by Schmidt Haus Books and this virus plagued fantasy thriller has been described as "unique," (McKinney) a "thrill ride," (D'Orazio) and as the "perfect story" (King). These descriptions work and not since Max Brooks' Recorded Attacks has a story covered the zombie apocalypse with such an interesting, militaristic approach.
