After Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Vasiliy Kukharskiy went to fight with the Ukrainian army, in September he was badly injured in the battlefield and was taken to a hospital in Kiev, where he died months later, unable to recover from his wounds.

Vasyl Kukharsky is featured in a Golden Dzyga winning (Ukrainian equivalent of the Oscars) series "Ukraine on Fire 2" (episode 672), where some of his impressive screen appearances are presented.
