Benedict Sanderson is a multi-BAFTA-winning director and cinematographer. He makes bold, atmospheric, visually striking films full of heart and humanity. His latest feature doc Atomic People was described by The Telegraph as, 'the most devastating documentary you will see this year' and in May 2025 won a BAFTA for Best Specialist Factual Documentary.
Between 2018-2023 Ben directed and filmed two series / five episodes of the acclaimed verité strand The Detectives for Minnow Films/ BBC. Described by The Sun as 'TV gold', The Detectives: Taking Down an OCG' won a BAFTA for cinematography, while 'The Detectives: Fighting Organised Crime' was nominated for Best Factual Series.
In 2023, Ben wrote & directed Dublin Narcos for Blast Films/ Sky Docs. Mixing scripted drama & documentary, this true crime epic was described by The Guardian as "a brilliant 3-part documentary", and was nominated for two BAFTAs, a Grierson & three RTS Craft awards for directing, editing and cinematography.
Across a 20 year career Ben has filmed and directed numerous episodes of returning factual series for Netflix/ Sky/ Ch4/ BBC & other broadcasters, as well as writing & directing drama shorts, including the multi-award-winning Vigilante, about the 2011 London Riots.
He is in the edit with a feature documentary for Passion Pictures/ Channel 4 & has a Netflix feature documentary due to TX in 2026. He began his career as a camera assistant on cult comedy Peep Show.
