‘Slow Horses’ Boss Will Smith to Exit After Season 5
Image
“Slow Horses” is losing a key player after Season 5. Executive producer Will Smith, who writes and essentially serves as showrunner — though that title is not used in UK productions — will exit the show after the episodes premiering this fall, TheWrap has learned.

The Apple TV+ drama series starring Gary Oldman has already been renewed for two more seasons. Writers Gabby Chiappe and Ben Vanstone were tapped to lead the charge for Seasons 6 and 7, respectively.

Smith teased in an interview with Deadline that Season 5 will “close out certain storylines” that have been prevalent since the start of the show, making it the right time to hand over the show to other creatives. Season 5 is set to premiere Sept. 24.

The upcoming fifth and sixth seasons are expected to adapt Mick Herron’s novels “London Rules,” “Joe Country” and “Slough House.” “Ted Lasso” star Nick Mohammed joins the cast as a special guest...

Slow Horses Season 7 Given the Green Light by Apple TV+
Image
Today, Apple TV+ announced a new, six-episode seventh season for the widely hailed, darkly comedic spy drama Slow Horses. The Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning series stars Academy Award winner Sir Gary Oldman, who has been honored with Golden Globe, Emmy, and BAFTA Award nominations for his outstanding performance as the beloved, irascible Jackson Lamb.

The complete first four seasons of Slow Horses are now streaming on Apple TV+, with the premiere of season five slated for September 24, 2025. Slow Horses season six was announced last year.

“‘Slow Horses’ has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action. I’m delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary’s magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb alongside the Slow Horses’ slightly inept spycraft,” said Jay Hunt, creative director, Europe, Apple TV+.

Slow Horses has been celebrated as “undoubtedly the best spy series on television,...

‘Slow Horses’ Renewed for Season 7 at Apple TV+
Image
Before its fifth season has even premiered, “Slow Horses” has already been renewed for Season 7. Apple TV+ announced the renewal news on Tuesday.

Season 7 will be six episodes long and will follow Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and his band of Slow Horses as they are “on the hunt to find and neutralize a mole at the heart of British Government before they can bring down the state,” a press release for the upcoming season reads.

The British spy thriller was previously renewed for Season 6 last year. The upcoming fifth and sixth seasons are expected to adapt Mick Herron’s novels “London Rules,” “Joe Country” and “Slough House.” As for Season 5, that installment will premiere on Apple TV+ on Sept. 24.

“‘Slow Horses’ has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action. I’m delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary...

‘Slow Horses’ Gets Early Season 7 Renewal at Apple
Image
Apple TV+ is keeping its Slow Horses on the track for a good while.

The tech giant’s streaming service has renewed Slow Horses for a seventh season — even though the Gary Oldman-led spy drama’s fifth installment won’t premiere for another couple of months. The pickup follows a season six renewal in October 2024, which came shortly after season four concluded.

“Slow Horses has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action. I’m delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary’s magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb alongside the Slow Horses’ slightly inept spycraft,” said Jay Hunt, creative director for Europe at Apple TV+.

With the renewal, Slow Horses will extend its run as Apple TV+’s longest-running scripted series in terms of seasons (though not in episode count).

Season seven will be based on Bad Actors,...

‘Slow Horses’ Renewed for Season 7 at Apple TV+
Image
Apple TV+ has renewed the darkly comedic spy drama “Slow Horses” for a seventh season which will once again consist of six episodes.

The Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning series, based on Mick Herron’s hit novels, stars Gary Oldman as the intractable and slovenly Jackson Lamb, who leads a band of MI5 rejects nicknamed the “slow horses” including River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), Roddy Ho (Christopher Chung), Louisa Guy (Rosalind Eleazar) and Catherine Standish (Saskia Reeves). The pack ends up in Slough House where they frequently find themselves blundering around the smoke and mirrors of the espionage world.

The premiere of season 5 is slated for Sept. 24. The sixth season, announced last year, sees the misfits on the run as they find themselves embroiled in a high-stakes game of retaliation and revenge thanks to frenemy Taverner. Season 7 is adapted for television and executive produced by Ben Vanstone, with Robert McKillop set to direct.

Ludwig | Trailer released for David Mitchell crime drama
David Mitchell
David Mitchell leads new BBC crime drama Ludwig, and the trailer for the show has landed. Anna Maxwell Martin co-stars.

David Mitchell has become a familiar face in UK comedy, whether trying to discern who’s telling the truth in Would I Lie To You? or as the uptight Mark Corrigan alongside long time comedy partner Robert Webb in Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain’s Peep Show.

He also took on the role of William Shakespeare in Ben Elton’s sitcom Upstart Crow, and reprised the role for a stage adaptation that opened in 2020 and then again when the play was restaged in 2022

Just as Alan Davies took a left turn from stand-up comedy to drama in David Renwick’s superb Jonathan Creek, Mitchell is now moving into the realm of crime drama to play the title role in six part BBC series Ludwig.

The synopsis reads as follows:
