The cinematic churn, relentless as a medieval water wheel, gifts us another iteration of a story lodged deep in the collective unconscious: “Rumpelstiltskin.”
This particular celluloid offering wraps itself in the grimy trappings of dark fantasy, with aspirations towards horror and perhaps a dash of what might generously be called bleak comedy. Our unfortunate protagonist is Evalina, a miller’s daughter whose life, already a tapestry of rural drudgery and spirited indiscretion, takes a dramatically unfortunate turn.
Her father, in a moment of either spectacular misjudgment or desperate ambition (the two often being indistinguishable in such tales), proclaims her capable of an alchemical absurdity: spinning straw into gold. The local monarch, predictably keen on such a skill, puts this claim to an immediate, life-or-death test. Thus, the stage is set for a familiar descent into perilous bargains and folkloric menace.

A 7.5-foot statue of late Motörhead legend Lemmy Kilmister was unveiled in his English hometown of Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, during a ceremony last Friday (May 9th).
The ceremony commenced in the Burslem town center at approximately 4 p.m. on Friday, with Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell in attendance to place Lemmy’s ashes in the statue alongside the accompaniment of a biker’s corteo.
The celebratory day saw fans flocking to adjacent bars and hostelries to enjoy libations in Lemmy’s honor. Ceremonial festivities included a 21-rev salute, a viewing of rarely seen Lemmy photographs via The Bare Walls Art Gallery next to the statue, a Motörhead tribute band performance later in the evening, and more.
Some even got there a day early to see the statue be transported in by truck, as seen in YouTube footage below, before being carefully lifted and placed on its plinth. A day later, the statue...

Craig Tuohy’s feature debut, Everyone Is Going to Die, unfolds in a spare 82-minute runtime that refuses any escape routes. Released on VOD and in select theaters on February 21, 2025, this indie horror-thriller plants itself firmly within a single ultramodern country house. Tuohy wears both writer’s and director’s hats, guiding each frame toward a cohesion that recalls the tight storytelling of early French New Wave experiments.

Fairy tales were never meant to be safe. And in Rumpelstiltskin, the latest feature from writer-director Andy Edwards, they most certainly are not. Forget Disney gloss and bedtime morals. This is a tale of dark deals, demonic pacts, and a leering, latex-skinned imp who doesn’t just ask for your firstborn – he demands it with teeth bared.
Premiering at Pigeon Shrine FrightFest Glasgow and now released in the UK via Miracle Media, Rumpelstiltskin marks another audacious step for Edwards, whose eclectic career spans sun-drenched zombie comedies (Ibiza Undead), psychological thrillers (Graphic Desires), and blood-soaked British folklore (Punch). But while the director is no stranger to horror, this film takes him into new territory – embracing fantasy, period filmmaking, and full-body prosthetics to resurrect one of the Brothers Grimm’s creepiest characters.
What sets this retelling apart is its reverence for the original text. Unlike other horror updates that twist childhood favourites into slashers or camp parodies,...

Rumpelstiltskin has become the latest fairy tale character to receive his own horror movie in the upcoming self-titled film releasing digitally this April. Bloody Disgusting shared the exclusive debut trailer, embedded above.
The original German fairy tale included in the Brothers Grimm collection was already rather dark. Set in a typical picturesque kingdom, a miller lies to the people of the kingship by claiming his daughter is capable of spinning straw into gold and if she doesn't do it then he'll kill her. Since she can't actually do it, a strange creature visits her one night and creates the gold for her in exchange for certain gifts.
Eventually they strike a bargain in which the creature will make more gold if the princess agrees to give him her first-born child. She agrees and when the time comes and the imp returns to collect, she's reluctant to part with her baby.

A father and a daughter find themselves threatened in their own home by two masked strangers. Based on those bare-bone facts alone, it's easy to assume that Everyone Is Going to Die is simply a modern-day rehash of perennial home invasion classics like The Strangers or Funny Games. Even though horror can be the most daring, inventive, and socially relevant genre on the planet, it also falls prey to the same trappings as any other media category: churning out repetitive junk. We assume we know how this tragedy will play out, and little about Everyone Is Going to Die's first third seems to disabuse viewers of that notion — although the atmospheric shot compositions, the sonically low drone of composer Si Begg's score, and the ruthlessly apprehensive pacing via editor Andy Edwards quickly correct any negative assumptions about the film's quality.

Ayvianna Snow, an actor ‘fast becoming the British Queen of Horror’ (Sean Cronin), stars in two highly anticipated new British independent films, Bogieville and Derelict, both set to make their World premiere at this year’s FrightFest 25th Anniversary event in London this month. We catch up with Ayvianna for a chat.
You have two new films premiering at FrightFest this month, can you tell us a bit more about them?
In Bogieville I play a vampire called Mary. Bogieville is an intriguing tale set in a derelict American trailer park. It follows the story of a young couple who find themselves lured in by the sinister caretaker, ‘Crawford’. Unbeknownst to them, Crawford is the guardian of the park’s residents, a pack of blood-thirsty hillbilly vampires. The film is directed by the renowned British filmmaker and actor Sean Cronin, who also stars as the lead vampire.

Horror versions of fairy tales, such as Snow White: A Tale of Terror with Sigourney Weaver and Sam Neil, for example, have been around for quite a while. And now the current trend of turning kid’s stories and nursery rhymes into horror films has carried over to them. It makes sense, they’re filled with witches, ghosts and in their original versions tended to be pretty grim and bloody moments such as Cinderella’s stepsisters cutting off their toes to try and get their foot in the glass slipper. And that brings us to Cinderella’s Revenge.
It certainly opens on an appropriately nasty note as Katherine frames her husband for the theft of the king’s jewels and has him killed for the bounty.

Fairy tales, in their undiluted forms, need no help when it comes to being creepy and horrifying. However, the Disneyfication of these classic stories makes it rather easy to forget their morbid beginnings. In the case of Cinderella, most modern adaptations of this quintessential rags-to-riches tale rarely bring up the violent aspects. All of that has been long removed in favor of safer elements, such as fairy godmothers and anthropomorphic mice. Yet, when reimagining the flaxen servant-turned-princess as someone who seeks “bloody vengeance,” Tom Jolliffe looked to the past; the Cinderella’s Revenge screenwriter found inspiration in the character’s gruesome roots.
The Brothers Grimm did not come up with Cinderella (or Aschenputtel) all on their own, but their familiar variation provides part of the source material for Cinderella’s Revenge. Charles Perrault is also credited, seeing as his French version (Cendrillon) was the first to feature the fairy godmother,...

Sometimes, living “happily ever after” means embarking on a blood-soaked path of revenge. That’s the case in the horror fairytale Cinderella’s Revenge. Directed by Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers), the film finds Lauren Staerck (Trust) having a helluva time as Rella until her fairy godmother shows up. That would be Natasha Henstridge (Species), who suggests there’s more to life than just nabbing Prince Charming, especially the shady one featured in Edwards’ gritty comedy horror film.
The story thus far: Cinderella’s (Staerck) wicked stepsisters and stepmother are throwing far too much shade. Somehow, our dear maiden winds up at the ball — nice touch having the “carriage” here come in the form of a Tesla — and her eyes twinkle with the prince and all that. But he’s not the charming gent we all remember him to be. Glass slippers appear.

As anyone who has ever attended a Frightfest event will tell you, the UK’s horror filmmaking scene is a close-knit community. One is always hearing about hew films on the grapevine, and it’s a delight when they live up to their promise. I first heard about Custom a few months ago when talking with Andy Edwards about his film Punch. He’s a producer on this one, and was keen to introduce me to first time feature director Tiago Teixeira.
The film follows young couple Harriet (Abigail Hardingham) and Jasper (Rowan Polonski), who finance their artistic work by making custom porn videos. It’s all well and good until they are approached by a client who has some unusual requests, leading them into a world which has more to do with ritual magic than simple sexual fantasy, and which leads them into unexpected places. It would eventually screen as.

A statue of the late Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister will be erected in his hometown of Burslem, which is part of the city of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, England.
Plans for the 2.25-meter bronze sculpture have been approved, according to the BBC, despite police concerns that the statue could generate “good-natured but potentially incident generating attention” — namely revelers climbing the plinth to pose with Lemmy or causing vandalism. It will be located in Burslem’s Market Place.
Local sculptor Andy Edwards will be constructing the statue out of Staffordshire clay, having previously created sculptures of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor at Derby County Fc and The Beatles on Liverpool’s Pier Head. An artist rendering (seen above) depicts Lemmy in his iconic stage pose, singing upward toward the skies with the microphone placed abnormally high above him.

"Cinderella's Revenge" is a horror movie that reimagines the classic fairy tale and includes some of the gore from the Brothers Grimm version. The movie stays true to the dark elements of the original Cinderella story, including the stepmother advising her daughter to cut off her toes to fit the slipper. "Cinderella's Revenge" gives Cinderella agency and allows her to seek revenge on her abusers, providing a new twist on the princess's character.
Cinderella is among the classic fairy tale characters getting a horror movie, titled Cinderella’s Revenge, and this new version finally does justice to her in two big ways. The horror genre has been defined by trends in recent years and one of the most recent and controversial ones is all about characters from media aimed at children getting a horror version. Brand-new photos and an eerie film trailer show off Cinderella's Revenge. Expect twists, turns, sex, and violence in this upgraded horror version of the classic fairy tale. Actress Lauren Staerck stars as Cinderella, with Natasha Henstridge playing a blonde and Californian fairy godmother.
“This ain’t no fairy tale.” The tagline for Cinderella’s Revenge sums up the horror comedy perfectly as the classic story gets a gruesome upgrade this spring. That wicked stepmother and those insufferable stepsisters have pushed poor Cinderella too far. And with a little help from Cinder’s Fairy Godmother, the glass-slipper-wearing heroine is going to paint the town red with their blood.
Andy Edwards directs Cinderella's Revenge, and he promises a horrifying upgrade with many of the same central elements from the original storyline making the film. But there will also be plenty of twists and turns to surprise fans of the source material.

We exclusively shared the trailer for Cinderella’s Curse last week, but that’s just one of two Cinderella horror movies on the way this year. The other is titled Cinderella’s Revenge.
Cinderella gets her revenge in theaters on April 26, 2024, and Entertainment Weekly has shared the official trailer along with new info this week. Watch the trailer down below.
The Wrap recently reported, “The film stars Lauren Staerck as the famed young lady who finds freedom from her wicked stepmother with the help of her fairy godmother. Only this time, instead of sending her to a ball to find her prince, the godmother (Natasha Henstridge) helps Cinderella unleash a plan of bloody vengeance.”
Director Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers) tells EW this week, “We have Cinderella, we have the evil stepmother, we have the two evil sisters, and they treat her pretty badly. But there’s a few twists in it and a few surprises.

This episode features A Million Days (Mitch Jenkins), The Weird Kidz (Zach Passero) & Punch (Andy Edwards).

“We don’t really have a slasher franchise in the UK. We don’t have a Freddy or a Jason,” Andy Edwards told me last year when explaining his plans for this film. It was a statement which might have excited some fans and worried others. After all, the best films require a bit of originality, and whilst a UK-based slasher might be interesting, it wouldn’t bode well if it began life as an imitation. Both sets of fans (and many other viewers besides) will be pleased, however, by the work which premiered at 2023’s Frightfest. it’s a film which sets up a distinctive character and which also has character of its own.

Now on its fourth year, the Santiago Film Festival’s Morbido-Sanfic Lab features an ever more diverse selection from Ibero-America.
As Morbido founder-ceo Pablo Guisa said of this year’s edition: “It has projects from multiple countries, several produced or directed by women as well as one LGBTQ-themed project and, for the first time, a documentary.” Vampire creatures abound in this crop.
Humberto Mazari, the helmer-scribe-producer behind one of the six projects, psychological thriller “The Alaska Summit” (“La Cumbre de Alaska),” is developing three comic book spinoffs which will further delve into the underworld of the summit and the creatures that guard it. “In the coming weeks we expect to consolidate the visual aesthetics with three Latin American illustrators in charge of bringing these comic books to life,” he told Variety.

Cinderella is out for vengeance in Cinderella's Revenge, an upcoming horror film by Andy Edwards starring Lauren Staerck (Trust) and Natasha Henstridge (Species). In Disney's version of Cinderella (the most popular version of the classic children's tale), the heroine is pushed around by her evil stepmother and stepsisters but never acts violently against them. Things will look a little different in this retelling, and Cinderella will switch out her glass shoes and use the assistance of her Fairy Godmother to seek bloody vengeance.
In a statement to Deadline, who first reported the news, Sobini Films' Mark Amin said:
"Cinderella is the most famous fairy tale in the world. We were able to develop a great horror script that is also a female empowerment story with global appeal."
Staerck, best known for her roles in Trust, Bad Influencers and The P.A, will star as the titular character, while Natasha Henstridge will portray the Fairy Godmother.

Natasha Henstridge of the first two Species movies and John Carpenter’s Ghosts of Mars, among other credits, has signed on to star in Cinderella’s Revenge, which gives the classic fairy tale a horror twist. Filming is already underway in the UK, with Andy Edwards (Zombie Spring Breakers) directing for Sobini Films.
Starring Lauren Staerck (Curse of Jack Frost) as Cinderella, this take on the fairy tale will show us what happens when Cinderella’s wicked stepsisters and stepmother push her too far, leading her to swap her glass slippers in pursuit of blood-soaked vengeance with the help of her Fairy Godmother.
My immediate assumption was that Henstridge would be playing the wicked stepmother, but she’s actually taking on the role of the Fairy Godmother.
Henstridge and Staerck are joined in the cast of Cinderella’s Revenge by Stephanie Lodge (Jack & Jill: The Hills of Hell), Beatrice Fletcher...
