Check out the poster above for the superhero fan-made short film “First Impressions”, then try to guess which one of those two people in the poster is the superhero. Is it the mild-mannered looking dude in the sweater? Or the girl in the stylish boots? Once you’ve picked a suspect, try to guess which D.C. superhero he/she is. The 5-minute short is directed by Leo Kei Angeleos, and stars Hailey Bright and Chester See as the couple on a first date, and Doug Jones as the villain. Want to see a badass action-packed short film based around a popular DC superhero? Of course you do! The short is called "First Impressions," and on top of the impressively choreographed fight sequences, Doug Jones (Hellboy) stars in it! I'm sure you'll guess who the superhero is halfway through the film, but I don't want to spoil it for you, in case you don't figure it out. I will say that this is the best fan-made short about the character that I've seen. Here's a short plot summary...

Judging from his recent work, Chester See is interested in transforming himself from soulful, handsome crooner to bad boy action star. The latest release on his YouTube channel is 'First Impressions', a stylish and action-packed short film where Chester goes on a date with a girl who turns out to be a total badass. The short starts with Chester and his date (played by Hailey Bright) leaving the theater after seeing Kill Bill; a fight breaks out after a shadowy man (Doug Jones) sics his thugs on Bright's character, who, as it turns out, is some sort of agent/spy/kickass action lady. The ensuing fight scene shares a girl power vibe with Kill Bill, though it has less blood, no katanas, and no Japanese people who look like Charlie Brown. The fight, choreographed by Thousand Pounds Action Company, is sufficiently exciting, and Bright (aka attractive YouTube geek girl #43512) is convincing as an action heroine.

At this point you have to really look at Machinima as a mega-network. There are so many shows and videos coming out of the 2.5 billion-view behemoth YouTube channel—plus another 8.5 billion from channels in its network—that this is one massive fire hose. Of course we’re talking about Machinima, the network with a big M, and not to be confused with litte ‘m’ machinima, the much broader term for game engine based storytelling that inspired the company’s name. Their latest original comedy web series Supremium is anything but machinima. The live-action send-up of The Office, It Crowd and Extras sets itself in a modest boutique gaming studio called Supremium, where the five leads illustrate their many oddball ways of avoiding working. What a night last night—thank you to everyone who made it out to the sold out Tubefilter Hollywood Web TV Meetup, the night was teeming with creative energy.
