She was awarded the AO (Officer of the Order of Australia) in the 2008 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to to the community through encouraging national pride and identity, particularly through leadership of the National Australia Day Council.

She was awarded the Australian Sports Medal on July 14, 2000 for her services to the sport of swimming.

She was awarded the OAM (Order of Australia Medal) in the 1994 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to the sport of swimming.

She was awarded the Australian Centenary Medal in the 2001 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to Australian society through swimming and the National Australia Day Council.

She was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 1983 Queen's New Years Honours List for her services to the sport of swimming.
