After the July 15 episode, Scott is now the Jeopardy! season 41 champion who's won the most games, as he moved past Laura Faddah, who'd won eight. Nine-day Jeopardy! champion Scott Riccardi has now surpassed a Masters legend and entered the history books, as he continues his impressive winning streak.

TV Insider reported that Scott is now on the Jeopardy! Top 20 all-time regular-play winnings list, knocking Jeopardy! Masters season 3 contestant and legend of the game Roger off the list. Roger had total earnings of $231,200.

In the game in which he moved past Roger, Scott had gone into Final Jeopardy! with a considerable lead with $28,200. Still, it wasn't a runaway, as his competitor Pete Johnston had $15,600. However, Carl Adams had $9,100.

Jeopardy! Champion Jason Singer Apologizes For Causing Married Couples Scandal
Image
Two-day Jeopardy! champion Jason Singer apologized for incorrectly announcing that he and his wife, one-day winner Susan McMillan, were the first married couple to win on the game show. Jason was a two-day champion, after breaking the 13-day streak of one-day winners on July 2.

Jason's wife, Susan, had won Jeopardy! in 2021, and he incorrectly stated that he hoped they'd be the first married couple to both be crowned champions if he won. During Final Jeopardy!, he even wrote "#BringBackSusan" under his answers, hoping that his wife could someday return to the show.

However, after Jason said that he and Susan were the first married champions, some former Jeopardy! winners came forward to say that they weren't the first, with Kristin Sausville, who won five games in 2015, even going so far as to say that she and her husband, Justin, who won six games in 2011, were being erased.

Dan Pawson and Andrea Saenz,...

‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Apologizes After Claiming to be First Champion Married to a Previous Winner
Image
Recent Jeopardy! contestant Jason Singer has profusely apologized for mistakenly claiming to be the first champion to be married to a previous Jeopardy! winner. Singer, who broke the 13-episode one-day champion streak on Tuesday, July 1, told host Ken Jennings he was hoping he and his wife, Susan McMillan, would become the first married Jeopardy! champions. McMillan previously won Jeopardy! in 2021. After Singer’s victory on Tuesday, various outlets reported him and McMillan as the first married couple to achieve this special milestone. However, it turned out that wasn’t the case, as several other married couples had previously won Jeopardy! episodes. This included Kristin Sausville, who won the show five times in 2015 and is married to fellow champ Justin Sausville, who won six episodes in 2011. Kristin reacted to the news on Facebook, writing, “There is something really surreal and honestly kind of sinister in watching part of yourself be erased in real time.

‘Jeopardy!’ Fans Blast Show Over ‘Absurd’ Ryan Seacrest Question
Image
Jeopardy! viewers had a lot to say about the Thursday, July 3 episode, particularly when it came to a specific question about Wheel of Fortune host Ryan Seacrest. The episode saw Jason Singer, a real estate agent from Portland, Maine, return to the Alex Trebek Stage looking for his third win. After a 13-game streak of one-day champions, Singer was the first contestant since mid-June to win more than one episode. Singer faced off against Scott Riccardi, an engineer from Somerville, New Jersey, and Katy Doll, an instructor of American studies originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. The game started evenly between Singer and Riccardi, whose scores were tied at $3,200 each at the contestant interviews stage of the episode. However, it was during this first round that fans took issue with a particular clue under the “Dropouts” category. The $600 clue read: “It was Seacrest out of this state university in 1992; that didn...

The controversy over the champion ‘Jeopardy’ couple: A brief explainer
Image
On Tuesday, Jason Singer won $22,401 on Jeopardy four years after his wife, Susan McMillan, claimed a $35,600 cash prize of her own. Several media outlets celebrated the couple as the show's first married champions. It turns out, they weren't.

Here's a brief explainer on how the sweet story turned sour.

How We Got Here

Before Singer's win, publications were touting the history-making potential. For example, a June 30 headline from People proclaimed: "Married Jeopardy! Contestants Hope to Be First Husband and Wife Winners: 'History Is at Stake'"

Then after his win, ABC's Good Morning America ran a segment on the couple with a slight caveat, stating on air, "The Jeopardy team is confirming that Jason and Susan may just be the first-ever already married Jeopardy champions." When George Stephanopoulos questioned the use of the word "may" in the statement, Lara Spencer responded that the game show doesn't do "deep dives into...

Jeopardy! Faces Shocking Scandal About First Married Champions (Producers React To Backlash)
Image
Jeopardy! producers are speaking out after current champion Jason Singer revealed that his wife Susan McMillan also won the show four years ago, and several outlets incorrectly reported that they were the first married couple to achieve this distinction. Jason broke the 13-game one-day Jeopardy! curse by winning his second game on June 2. Under his correct Final Jeopardy! answer, he wrote, "#BringBackSusan," referring to his wife.

Jeopardy! producers are speaking out after current champion Jason Singer revealed that his wife Susan McMillan also won the show four years ago, and several outlets incorrectly reported that they were the first married couple to achieve this distinction.

Now EW reports that, although some people incorrectly thought that Jason and Susan were the first married couple champions, a Jeopardy! representative told the outlet that the show doesn't track contestants' spousal records, but acknowledged that several other champions have been married couples in the past.

‘Jeopardy!’ Winners Outraged After Reports Inaccurately Credit Contestants With Historic First
Image
On July 1, Jason Singer won Jeopardy! four years after his wife, Susan McMillan, accomplished the same feat. However, they’re not the first married couple to both be named champions, contrary to multiple reports — and former winners are setting the record straight on social media. Kristin Sausville, a five-time Jeopardy! Winner in 2015 who is married to another champion, Justin Sausville, took to Facebook to call out the inaccurate reports. “There is something really surreal and honestly kind of sinister in watching part of yourself be erased in real time,” Kristin declared in a July 2 post. “Maybe you’ve seen an article in the past day or two about how one of the Jeopardy! contestants last night had a wife who was a J! champion, and was hoping he would win so they could be the first married champions in J! History,” she continued. “Well. If you’re friends with me,...

‘Jeopardy!’: Stunning Game Is Decided by Huge Bet
Image
[The following post contains Major spoilers for the Wednesday, July 3, episode of Jeopardy!] A Jeopardy! contestant made a shocking wager that led them to win the game, but it could have gone horribly wrong. Jason Singer, from Portland, Maine, tried to break the one-day curse that tied the 2002 record on July 1. With a one-day total of $22,401, Singer played his second game to try and up that amount. He competed against Stephanie Yang, from Queens, New York, and Jeff Foels, from Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday, July 2. “Yesterday, Jason Singer became lucky number 13 for consecutive games with a new champion, tying a record set all the way back in 2002,” host Ken Jennings said. “Can Jason break the one-day curse today?” The beginning of the game didn’t go so well for Singer, a real estate agent. He was in third for most of it. Yang, a children’s book designer, was only $200 away from the lead with $2,400 when she found the first ...

‘Jeopardy!’: Did Show Tie Unwanted Record as Husband Aims to Match Wife?
Image
[The following post contains Major spoilers for the Tuesday, July 1, episode of Jeopardy!] With a new month came the hope for a new multi-day champion. Jeopardy! tied the record for most one-day winners since 2002. This unwanted record came as a husband competed on the game show and tried to match his wife, who won in 2021. Dave McBride, from Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, returned for his second game after earning $22,401 in his first. On Tuesday, July 1, he played against Jason Singer, from Portland, Maine, and Heather Kompanek, from New York, New York. Singer, a real estate agent, had a lot of pressure on his back as he tried to surpass his wife, Susan McMillan, who won $35,600. She played two games, but lost the second. The couple are both former journalists, who started to watch Jeopardy! together daily early on when they were dating, starting 20 years ago. “There are some records on this show that champions are really hoping to break,” host ...

‘Jeopardy!’ Married Couple Aims to Be Husband & Wife Winners
Image
Jeopardy! fans are in for a treat on Tuesday, July 1, when Jason Singer, from Portland, Maine, competes on the show. He will be hoping to win just like his wife did four years ago, and complete a rare event in the show’s history of a married couple each competing and winning. Fans will remember how Roger Craig, a 2011 Jeopardy! Tournament of Champions winner, revealed in February that he married Julia Collins, a 20-day champion. He announced their marriage during an episode of the 2025 Jeopardy Invitational Tournament. In Tuesday’s episode Jason Singer will face off against Heather Kompanek, from New York City, and Monday night’s champion. His wife, Susan McMillan, a former journalist, won $35,600 during her first game in 2021. She lost her second. According to the Portland Press Herald, Singer, who used to work for the newspaper, has been a fan of trivia for decades and spent years preparing to be on Jeopardy!
