In April, 2006, the Houston Chronicle named her one of ten women in broadcast news to watch and stated, "she shows exceptional ability to report. She's a future star".

Began her career working at Goldman Sachs in emerging debts markets covering Latin America, and at the hedge fund, D.E. Shaw & Co. She has said she never intended to have a career in either finance or news -- instead, she grew up waiting to become an opera singer.

She is fluent in English, Spanish and Italian.

Competed in the Miss America 1994 pageant where she won a preliminary award in the Talent competition and the Bernie Wayne Scholarship for the Performing Arts.

Earned a B.A. in History from Columbia in 2000.

Has three children with husband James A. Ben: twin daughters, Alexandra Ben and Elizabeth Ben (born on December 8, 2009) and son Jamie Ben.

Got her start as a correspondent at KPIX-TV, a CBS owned station in San Francisco, California. In 2001, she joined CBS News as a business correspondent for the CBS Evening News with Bob Schieffer (2005) and CBS the Early Show (1954). In 2007, she joined CNBC as an anchor and NBC News as a business correspondent and analyst for the NBC Nightly News (1970) and Today (1952). On January 9, 2012 she joined Bloomberg News as an anchor and correspondent. On April 6, 2015, she joined Fox Business Network as a business anchor and Fox News as a markets correspondent.

Attended the New England Conservatory of Music, in Boston, Massachusetts studying Voice & Opera and the American Institute of Musical Studies, in Graz, Austria. Graduated cum laude from Columbia University, in New York City with a Bachelor of Arts degree in United States History in 2000.

Graduated with honors from the Phillips Exeter Academy, a prestigious private college preparatory boarding/day school in Exeter, New Hampshire in 1991.

Lives in New York with her husband, James A. Ben, an investment banker. (2009)
