He was awarded the CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2016 Queen's New Years Honours List for his services to football and charity in Altrincham, Cheshire, England.
At the time of his death, his 46 goals in the 1963-64 season were still the single-season record for Manchester United.
He was the first Scottish player to win the prestigious Ballon d'Or.
