They were the fourth band to appear on the cover of "Time" magazine. The others were The Beatles, The Band and The Who.

Members are Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr..

There is a mistake in the lyrics of "Pride (In the Name of Love)", which was written about Martin Luther King. The lyric reads "Early morning, April 4/Shot rings out in the Memphis sky", but King was assassinated in the early evening.

The TV show Lances da Vida (2003) is named after their song "One Tree Hill" from the album "The Joshua Tree".

To date (2012), the band is the only Irish act in history to win the GRAMMY for "Album of the Year" (1988 & 2006).

They were turned down for a session by the influential BBC Radio One DJ John Peel in their early career, something which Peel claimed to have never regretted as he didn't rate them at all. Other hugely successful bands he turned down included The Police and Dire Straits.

In a 2006 interview, The Edge claimed the record How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb was 'song for song...our best ever album.' Bono also stated 'there are no fillers.'.
