Image
A&e Biography has your backstage pass to stories behind the biggest icons who have transcended the genre. Heavy Metal Legend Ronnie James Dio Dies at 67
Some are calling it the end of an era. Others are flicking their Bics toward the heavens, as they remember a heavy metal legend. Ronnie James Dio, best known for replacing Ozzy Osbourne as lead singer of Black Sabbath back in 1980, has died. Dio's wife and manager Wendy broke the news of her husband's death on Sunday, and reported that Dio had been suffering from stomach cancer since last November. Dio just recently completed his seventh round of chemotherapy and in spite of the medical setback, was hopeful that he could resume working even though he was forced to cancel his summer tour. "Wendy, my doctors, and I have worked so hard to make it happen for all of you, the ones we care so much about, that this setback could be devastating, but we will not let it be," he said. "With your continued love and support, we ... will carry on and thrive.
