Is a pharmacologist and immunologist, with a focus on pharmaceutical research.

His doctoral thesis was on the respiratory system of rats, from the University of Surrey, in 1988.

His siblings include two sisters, including an elder sister (by five years) who holds a doctorate in fungal genetics, and lives in Adelaide, Australia.
