Candice van Litsenborgh

Candice van Litsenborgh is one of South Africa's most prolific entertainers. An award winning actress, singer, dancer, voice over artist, playwright, director, producer, headshot photographer and educator, she has been a familiar face in the South African arts industry for three decades.
Candice began drama classes at the age of six with the Rother Swain Drama Studio in Port Elizabeth/Gqeberha, and later at Stageworld Theatre School. She was a soloist for the Eastern Cape Youth Choir for three years, touring extensively and performing for Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki during their terms as President of South Africa.
She made her professional stage debut in Capab's production of Benjamin Britton's, Noye's Fludde, just three months after Matriculating.
While working toward her Speech and Drama teacher's licentiate, she also obtained Trinity College of London Performer's Certificates in Musical Theatre and Acting respectively. She began teaching speech and drama while working as an assistant director, theatre technician and performer, winning multiple acting awards for leading roles in Shakespeare, Greek tragedy, British farce and various revue shows in her home town.
Deciding to pursue performance over teaching, she moved to Cape Town to attend the University of Cape Town where she graduated in 2004 with a BA in Theatre and Performance (class medalist for "Musical Theatre" and "Learning Through Theatre and Drama", distinction in drama and full degree with distinction). Before graduating she was already in rehearsals for Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing at Maynardville.
Over the past two decades she has appeared in multiple national and international musical theatre tours, on three continents, and has been nominated for four Fleur du Cap awards and a Naledi in two musical theatre acting categories.
Her musical performances include: Audrey in Little Shop of Horrors, Shirley in Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Jack's Mom in Into the Woods, Trish in Kinky Boots, Emma Goldman in Assassins, Jennifer in I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change, Kim Ravenal in Showboat, Chess (understudy Svetlana), Annie (understudy Miss Hannigan), Sweeney Todd (understudy Mrs Lovett), Jesus Christ Superstar (understudy Mary Magdalene), Evita, The Little Mermaid and Sunset Boulevard.
Candice has written, adapted, edited and produced one act plays, cabarets and radio drama under the banner of Canned Rice Productions. She works as a script doctor, director, lecturer and mentor for independent theatre, was a long time member of the improvisation troupe, Improguise, and has appeared in commercial campaigns for several recognised brands including British Petroleum, multiple Chicken Licken campaigns, Trivago and a Super Bowl advert for Pringles.
As a voice artist she has provided the English, and sometimes Afrikaans voices for hundreds of dubbed films and series, working in a variety of accents. Her voice work includes 3 seasons of the acclaimed Swedish series, The Bridge, Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia and the Afrikaans voice for Olga the owl in Richard The Stork 2. She spent two years voicing over 1000 episodes as the titular character in Anupamaa for Starlife.
When theatres closed during the pandemic she began to concentrate more on film and television work and, in just four years, managed to build up an impressive resume of local and international work. Her on screen work includes the films Just Now Jeffrey, Masinga: The Calling, The Shakedown and Bird Boy with Téa Leoni. TV roles include Resident Evil for Netflix, Desert Rose, Recipes for Love and Murder and Catch Me A Killer. She co-starred in the Afrikaans musical comedy short film, Deuntjie for Silwerskerm/Kyknet in 2024.
Most recently she was seen on stage as Grandma Addams in The Addams Family at The Homecoming Centre (formerly The Fugard), which earned her her fourth Fleur Du Cap nomination and first win for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical.
